New business card
He uses postcards for business cards. I just got in my sample package from Overnight Prints. The quality is freaking incredible! I'm going to make this project my first run with them. Has anybody used them before? Happy with 'em? Mad at 'em?

never used them before what's the cost? I use a local print shop. It's just easier because I can go see a proof prior to printing and can get same day service if needed.

Here's the cost.

We have a local printer as well. These guys are only a few miles from my house and I have a wholesale account with them. They do amazing work, but even at wholesale they're considerably more expensive. I would rather work local but a hundred or so dollars per run really adds up.

I use and recommend OvernightPrints.com
The stock (as you saw from the samples) is nice and heavy, with a great gloss coat.
No complaints from me.

I use GotPrint.com. Their quality is consistently high. Their turn-around is not fast, but dependable. Unless I'm missing something, their standard retail prices are about 40% to 50% of OvernightPrint's. Their prices are even better if you set up an account with them as a print broker. You can forget about getting proofs, just use their templates and don't screw up. Their printing is extremely consistent and predictable.
With their prices, small businesses often find that my combined design and printing fee is less than the cost of just printing at the local, and they usually get higher quality printing through me. Ofcourse, GotPrint is a local printer - - everybody is local to somebody.

Just got the cards in today. Delivery was slow but the quality is perfect. I was worried about the CMYK color varience with the dark red but it matches exactly.

Just checked gotprint. Are those prices right? The prices almost scare me about the quality. How long have you used them? Have you ever had an order screw up to see how they handle that? Also, how slow is turnaround?

I've been using them for about three years now. One time I placed a couple thousand dollar order with them and they pestered me for photocopies of my credit card. That whole experience was very frustrating. No real problems to speak of. The customer service folk are nice enough.
I don't think you can get a printed proof, and for straight forward jobs like brochures, you don't even get a PDF proof. I agree with their decision to do that. A PDF proof from an internet printer has never helped me.
I find their trims to be extremely accurate. Their print quality is high and very consistent. Up to 2% of their product has very small defects such as white spots that the average consumer would never notice or care about. I count that as normal for large offset printing jobs. It's not VistaPrint. Their website works consistently and their upload feature is fast compared to some other internet printers.
They only do what they do. No custom jobs, die cuts or anything like that.
They take one to four weeks in house. You can order express shipping, but paying extra to get your rush job at the front of their project list is not an option. Order a sample pack from them. The jobs they produce for me have been consistent with the samples they first sent to me.

Overnight Prints, Worst vendor in 18 yrs
(03/07) Ordered 1000 oversized postcards. received 500 on time, about 100 were damaged by them. They folded them to fit into a very small box - worse packaging I've seen in 18 yrs. Waited another week to get the balance of my order but only received 200 and those were supposed to be for replacing the damaged cards. Still waiting to receive the rest of my order, 500 cards.
Oh, they filed a claim with UPS so they could be compensated for damaged and lost product. UPS delivered the package exactly as they sent it!
If you are a graphic artist sending client work to these clowns, it’s only a matter of time before the screw up. That’s about the only thing you can count on from them.
Stay away fro this vendor!
Look them up at the BBB - to many filed complaints.

I was happy enough with the quality of this order that I used them again for some standard 2 sided business cards for a different client. They screwed the job badly. The colors were darkened down and the cutting was off. I contacted them on many occasions and never got to speak to a live person and they never returned my calls or emails. I finally just wrote it off as a $50 lesson learned. I'm just thankful I learned it on a small order. I uploaded the exact same tif files to another vendor and the job came out great.
I should have checked them out first.
From the BBB concerning Overnight Prints
Quote:
Our complaint history for this company shows the company gave proper consideration to complaints presented by the Bureau.
Complainants allege delays with receiving orders, poor quality merchandise, incorrect order deliveries, and difficulties with refunds and exchanges. Some customers complain they pay additional fees for overnight deliveries, but the company fails to deliver as agreed. Others claim that offers of free deliveries or other perks used as buyer incentives are not honored by the company.
The company responds to some complaints by issuing refunds, re-printing orders, or delivering orders. Not all customers are satisfied with the company's efforts to resolve complaint concerns.

A CC rating, not too great. Live and learn.
