If anyone uses a photo taken from one of the sites listed above and treating it as a free one (downloading the comp photo and not paying for it), this can easily lead to serious legal issues and getting charged for unauthorized use of the photo. The photos from these sites are NOT free.

Excellent point.

For the most part, the issue here is "royalty free" imagery. That doesn't mean "free". It means you don't pay royalties on the usage IF you purchase the image legitimately. Purchases can be as low as $1/image on some sites. Other sites will charge a premium for how one is using the imagery.
