Does anyone have a link to a good article on what images can be used for an what they can't. Anything that deals with trademark/copyright but isnt too heavy reading!

I totally "second" this. At the end of the day, even with a large list of royalty free imagery providers, we almost always come back to iStockPhoto.com . . . . and not just because of cost; most of the time it's because we find what we really need.

Excellent point.
For the most part, the issue here is "royalty free" imagery. That doesn't mean "free". It means you don't pay royalties on the usage IF you purchase the image legitimately. Purchases can be as low as $1/image on some sites. Other sites will charge a premium for how one is using the imagery.

Also another thing to take a look when purchasing a photo is its license. Many popular stock photo sources DO NOT allow using their images for website templates intended for resale. This applies to Istockphoto for example.
So if you are planning to use the imagery for designing the templates, be careful with the permitted use terms.
A hint: Bigstockphoto.com DOES allow using their photos in templates (with crediting the source as well as the author).
