You show them work you've done for others. They either like what they see and agree to your terms, or not...... a very simple but effective strategy.... and like I mentioned... not for everyone.

Who's "they", you mean Davey?.. yeah he probably did..

Really though... you really have to work up to a position to be able to adopt this policy ... and once you're there.. I would think that you wouldn't have it any other way ... you know? Except in a case where like you mentioned, you've done work for them before and, I'm assuming, have developed a good trust.

ok... Update.
I just got contact from the site stating that they have a new design in place, so I figure it won't hurt to show what wasn't up to speed for them...
and seeing as people say I never post anything.

here we go... feel free to comment.

Please note that these are not showing up in order that they were sent, see file names for correct order... Please read the comments I added to each upload for details about that layout.

These layouts are copyright JuggoPop.com, not what it says in the footers (that was for example purpose only)

When you get done with looking at their drafts... feel free to check out their site (unlinked) "parinaybandhan . com"

This is the design they ended up with and is not what I started with... the only thing there before was the same code with blue and white hi-tech feel.

Draft one:
This is a basic very simple design... most of the time, my first design for a new client is not really ment to be an end result but more a place to get feedback from (that's why this looks a bit simple and "colorful"... which was what was asked for.

Draft two:
This was my first real try... it was made after they showed me some of the sites they were up against... personally, I find this one to do a better job than the ones they linked me to. They didn't care for this one because it would require them to edit their script too much to make it work.

Draft three:
With this one... they had explained that the center area had to stay the same as what was on their site. They gave me the impression that they wanted more green and red, so that's the direction I went... this is really not my favorite, but I was trying to find something that would be to their liking.

Draft four:
With this one I was told to make it less bright, that I had used too much green, and to add a bit of blue... by this point I was feeling that they really just wanted something simple in nature... I tried to make something peaceful while giving off the feeling of their culture as much as I know how... (kind of a gap there).

first one almost looks like a tex-mex resturant web site.

The one they have up now looks awful. I've done 10 minute jobs better than that, it is horrid.

I've had it happen to me before. I did a site, www.thrios .com(unlinked of course). Me and the guy sit down for about 3 hours discussing what he wanted in the site. I took my notes which were fairly in depth, and even sat there and drew on paper exactly what it was that he said he wanted. He said that was good and to go with it.

So i make the site, i wasn't crazy about it honestly, but hey, it is what he asked for. I get done with it, show it to him and the only thing he said was "that is not what i wanted, redo it"

So i redo it the second time. Again, same result

The third time finally i set down with him and we discussed some more things. But yet another hit and bust

The next time i finally started getting a little aggravated and just came up with my own idea, basing it off somewhat off vino's site(http://www.vinosbrewpub.com/index.htm for those of you who do not live in LR). He seemed to like this ok, so I started working on it. The site honestly ended up looking quite good, and i was satisfied.

He was not however and this leads to time #5. I had to totally maw the site up, which i honestly didn't care at the point, and the final version shows that i didn't care. Anyway, he was satisfied with that, which was no where near the best.

Of course a month later he was complaining about this and that(basically his suggestions for change would have brought it back to what i had when i did the design on my own terms). I just told him i didn't have time.

Sometime about 3 or 4 months ago he comes calling me asking me to do a overhaul of the website and wanted to know how much i would charge. Told the guy he would have to give me $25k if i was ever to work for him again(a number i knew he couldn't afford).

I just hate dealing with people like that sometimes. I took the site and made $150 off of it. I was new in design around the town, not that there was anyone else. The place next door offered him a crap job for $70 so i knew i had to go lower than i wanted. It was looking at the time that it might be a fairly decent place, and the site would be viewed by a lot, so i went ahead and gritted my teeth hoping that a little investment would pay off. I made him agree also that he had to spread my name around and bring in at least a couple of other businesses to have websites done because i was cutting him a deal. None the less, he told one guy, which the guy was new in town and of course did not have money.

So juggo, if you ever run down here to arkadelphia, be sure to run over to main street and pee on the door to Thrios.
