Question Looking for a logo design

I am putting up a website for my company, and am also thinking about creating business cards. My design software is very limited, and although I have an idea about my logo, I am looking for some advice. Can someone please give me some recommendations on designing my logo?

Keep it simple. It has to look good at all sizes. One or two colors is best.

There are a host of factors to consider before designing a logo. The logo design firm will conduct market research about the different types of logos used in your industry by your competitors. Based on that, they will show you several potential logos that they can customize for you. Make sure you send them your corporate colors.

For example, check out Logo Design Guru. I love their portfolio, quick generation and above all, the price tag, which is definitely cheap. It is definitely beneficial to buy a professional logo that you will keep for the life of your company, rather than to use an amateur design just to save a few dollars.

Lightbulb Keep a Vector Copy of Your Logo

Many logos loose their theme while conversion from color to black and white. Keep this in mind while designing.

After you have completed the logo. I would suggest you to keep a resolution-independent vector version of the logo.

Start by just sketching. Play with the name of your company, play with the initials and see how the letters work with various shapes. I find just doodling about can produce some great ideas. Then you take it onto the computer to see if these sketches translate well. It's always worked for me.

Depending on your budget a logo can be sourced from a number of places on the web do a google, but best thing is to take the advice of those who have said to sit down and muck about with a few ideas then try and recreate it in the programs you have.. There is open source software available such as inkscape and gimp to create vector work, you will need vector if you are planning on using the logo on print and there's no problems with resizing the logo for other use.
