EPS Help please!

I am using Illustrator CS2 on a Mac and was told in college that we are supposed to save logos as .eps formats. They never did tell us what the settings should be! I am trying to save my 4 color logo as an .eps. I would like to have a preview so when brought into programs like Word the user can see the logo instead of a blank box. I tried a few combinations of setting but can't get it to show up on a PC, only on a Mac. I would like it to work for both and preserve vector settings so it can be rescaled.

I would also like to know how to get the file to have an icon of the logo instead of the illustrator icon. Thanks!

to get them to show up on computers that do not have illustrator installed you will need to save it as some other format like jpg or png. You will also need to convert out of cmyk to RGB.

It is always good to keep the eps file because it can be resized and edited easily, that is likely why someone told you to keep it. but without the proper software no one can read it.

as far as having the file have an icon of the logo instead of the ill. file, that is not something that is editable if it is eps, it is just what it is going to show up as since it is your default for opening the file.

hope that helps, if you have any questions other than that ask away. I am working from memory here since i dont have my copy of ill on this computer though.

Thanks for the info. So I am curious though... I created a logo for a school and need to give them the logo file so they can use it. How would you suggest I do that since no one there is a design person? I was thinking making a tiff or something.. but what if they want to put the logo on something bigger? I don't want to make them a whole bunch of tiff files with different sizes. I will of course include the illustrator file in case they use a professional printer. But I am talking just for things they would do.. ie business cards, coursebooks, etc. Thanks again for your help.

I would just enlarge and make it at least 300 dpi so that it will print off well. then save it as a png or tiff. That way it should not lose any quality being downsized. It is always easier to downsize than upsize.
