This is great Spear,,, I really like it...
I would try lightening the shadow considerably and see how it looks,,, also I would try lightening the black areas inside the ball a bit, make it look more like chunks are missing... you might try a filter or layer style to do that though... just see how it looks

If you apply the right filter/s or layer style/s... you can make the black dots look like pits... same w/the missing chunks.. give them more definition ... but you may have to lighten the black up some first... not sure...
filter/textures might be the key .... just have to play around ... looks good though the way it is too ... these are just suggestions for possible improvement...

i spent like entire weekend working with tutorials..
just incase anyone is wondering: yeah, some aspects are from tutorials.. but their not the same.. like first one.. it didnt have spiral effect.. it was just a circle.. i cut edges and stuff and added coloring.. 2nd one was mainly my own stuff
