Text over an image

Hi, I drew an image that is a wide black stripe, than a narrower blue middle stripe, than a narrower lighter stripe. What I want to do Is I want to put text on my middle stripe and make this text my navigation and a pop up menu. I can do it all in fireworks and preview in my browser and it works great, however when I try to export it as one single animated gif to put it in my page it gives me several different pages due to the slices or if I keep it in .png format the text links do not work. Any ideas?

cant have dynamic gifs if that is what you are getting at. .png is no good for web apps, thank the grand ole microsoft for screwing that one up with IE.

Your best bet is just to use flash and make it dynamic there, then embed the flash on the page.

or at least i think this is what you are getting at. i am usually wrong.

any reason you can not use a td image and drop text on it?

I try extremely hard not to use tables for this client, becuase their viewers will be mostly using brand new browsers that do not support tables as well as the older ones, however, I did figure out what to do, I just decided to move my text down. Thanks for the ideas, though. I appreciate it.

happy to contribute what i can, why dont new browsers support tables? I use tables and CSS for all of my sites.

According to the W3C the reason the industry is going to CSS instead of tables is twofold:
1.)It cleans up code for the search engines
2.)Tables are going to become a thing of the past because CSS is more stable and fluid.

oh i agree that CSS is the future for table layout, I disagree with it not working in browsers.
