to be honest i would want that ad... couldn't properly focus on what was being advertised. found it confusing. That said it is worth more than the $50 he was supposed to give you. you're lucky you didn't make it better and spent more time on it considering you're not gonna see any money for the job.

For four months with Flash, I think you are doing great. It was clean, small in size played well and followed the clients outline.

Expect to get stiffed a few times when you are starting out, especially when you are dealing with some of these website entrepeneurs that spew out multiple websites by the hour. You develop a feel for the honest ones after a while.

I never charge less than 100.00 for anything animated though and usually a lot more if it involves animated characters. Even if most of it is just text effects, you've still invested in learning the software.

1/2 upfront is the usual way to contract, but if you're dealing with someone you know it's not always necessary. But with new clients is a must.

For the time it took (my guess is more than 2-3 hours), definitely is worth way more than $50 and I agree with everyone else, I would have ran this project in phases. Still, I've had clients delay and stiff at times. It goes both ways to try to tell if a client should be a client.

Whenever I do any projects with visuals, I always do a mock up, even if its crappy stills. This way, if they approve the mock up, it limits their ability to moan and groan.
