This I made from the photo of a clay bust of the LOTR character, I used a photo of Gene Simmons' tongue:

I'd have drawn the tongue/eyes, but I don't have that kind of talent so I explore other means. What I do is manipulation mostly.

My avatar is a manipulation of a photo of a B&W drawing by a famous artist. The artist drew his own eye. I suspect he may have been looking in the mirror when he drew it because it is described as a self-portrait.

Maybe not though. He may have been talented enough to do it from memory, I don't know.

I can dig it. OK, I see you've got a lot of good stuff! I've gotta get some new stuff up on here too. I was trying to learn more about plug-ins but I think I'll just start creating. Here's a pic of me and my favorite Street Fighter III character - Akuma for now. I made this when I first got photoshop, about a year or so ago.

That may not be a bad idea, some of the best work in PS is done without the use of plugins. I personally find that most of the plugins I've tried have increased my options, and enjoyment as well (I do graphics purely for enjoyment, BTW). I think that some plugins are just plain fascinating. Graphics purists used to mock the use of plugins, but that is because a lot of plugin users used them in mundane ways, it seems that's pretty much changed now.

Here is a snake head that I created from the Custom Shape Tool at the top of the canvas. I created smoke from the shape in Eye Candy4000, KPT Rad Warped it, then applied a PS default pattern and did some bloating, bri/con, sharpness, etc.. added some eyes, fangs etc..
to make that crosshatch pop like that is a trick that is not easy to remember how to do, I made this quite a while back and cannot even remember exactly how I did it as I've tried to duplicate it and haven't been able to thus far. lol. I'm sure I'll get it eventually if I just keep trying because I want to create a body for it.

I believe Gauze was the name of the pattern that I used and one of the main secrets to get it to pop is that the brightness and contrast has to be adjusted just right, you don't even see it start to pop unless they're close to where they need to be. Sharpness adjustments were very important too as I remember. It's getting time to where I should be trying to duplicate this again, I've tried like 5 times so far without success, and it's a biatch because it's just some little thing that I'm forgetting to do, or maybe a step that is in the wrong order or some such thing.

In reference to post #110, it wasn't bloating that I did, as I recall it was one of the Filter/Distort actions. That is how I distorted the gauze without blurring, bloat would have left blurring. The trick is to distort just the gauze.

PS or PSP - an alternative?

I support the smaller software firms trying to make a name & compete. my primary Digital Design Software of Choice is Serif DP8 (Serif DrawPlus ...
DP8 is my primary Graphics tool... I can Hand sketch, scan, Convert to image format, Drag it into DP8, & utilize all the similar feature's as PS & PSP has. Including but not limited to: Layering, Animation, PFD, 3D effects, Light Box effects, Filters, Fills, Fades, Transparencies, Image Slicing (With HTML Output), DPI Control, Etc......
The Only thing it can't do that may or may not cause a problem with a potential client is the editable layered file format not being compatible with Adobe software. Then again people with Strictly PS projects are normally just piece work anyways... I much prefer the Complete project from the ground up giving me full control of the tools used to accomplish the final product.
Designers Like Artists, each have their own techniques, Styles, Preferences, & most definitely their own collection of tools. Serif Software being one of Many that are in my Design/Art tool Box....
As far as telling you which one is best between PS & PSP, I have used both... The best can only be decided by what software you are more comfortable with using & produces the best outcome (In complements to your style).
My personal choice, is Neither......

Why not share some stuff with us Redhead?
I'd love to see something from PSP too.
My old neighbor was pretty good with that program.
Very creative.

Here's something I just drew with the mouse. Then I took it into photoshop to add some effects. It's kind of hard drawing with the mouse, but it came out alright.

HaHa, cool.... Old post.. Serif DrawPlus X2 (Upgraded from 8 ) is still my primary tool & I'm still a loyal Serif customer.. However due to demands, I do admit to having the Adobe CS3 suite, CorelDraw x3, Psp x2, & a few more here (Strictly for format conversions on delivery). This insures compatibility with any of my clients software's. I now deliver in over 78 extensions/formats.
Basically, I do all my design work using Serif DrawPlus X2 & a Genius G-Pen Graphics Tablet. Once the work is approved, I transfer it over to a couple other brand software's & start rendering in different extensions for compatibility.
I still support the small guys, however the corporate giants have made it difficult to deliver in extensions clients can claim full rights to & modify if needed later. Full rights delivery includes master (Editable) extension files, anyone who doesn't deliver the master files technically still owns all copyrights to the design seeing that they can prove more in a court of law with masters.
It's nice to see that people follow my posts here

Both PSP and PS are nice. It just depends on what one is doing and in the mood for. A couple of the PS filters are very nice.
However, since I got Serif PhotoPlus, that is the program I go to the most and enjoy the most. And it is just a fraction of the cost of PS, even when there is not a great deal going on, which is just about never. Overall SPP is very much like PS but somehow I just like it better.
