I need a graphic program

I have never done graphics. However, I am finding that I need to get a program that is easy and inexpensive for the purpose of doing splash pages, web sites etc. Most of what I see is too much of the same thing...
I find the best way to quick start a site is through traffic exchanges and you need splash pages. You need splash pages that catch they eye.

Can anyone give me some ideas?

I appreciate it.

No one needs a splash page, they are passe.

Needing a splash-page is a matter of perspective though they do serve a function. Make sure you weight the pros and cons to having a splash page. Personally, I don't have any issue with them as long as they serve a function.

As for a graphics program that will enable you to create a web-template, I would sugest Photoshop, of course.

If you've "never done graphics" then don't bother with buying Photoshop, get a trial and see if it's for you. Otherwise, hire a pro.

Don't you mean, you mildly disapprove of the extra click when it serves no purpose... ?

That's the most common complaint about a splash page and one that I agree with. But with the caveat that I don’t have a problem as long as it serves a function.

The only consolation would be for a launch page to a fullscreen flash site or as an option page to choose a flash site or html or High bandwidth, low bandwidth, choose your language, choose your region... and so on and so forth. To me those are functional and serve a purpose.

If a splash page isn’t something of that ilk then it is a waste of time and bandwidth.

To a point anyways.

I also say look at GIMP, I use this if and whenever I need to do any Graphics work on a Linux machine and can't get to my Windows machine which has Macromedia Studio 8 installed, it's free and can be used just as well as some of the dearer programs.

Or, if you're used to using PS there are plugins available that make the interface damn near the same.
