Can somebody reccomend me graphics optimizing software?

I need something that will make JPGs and GIFs smaller (in terms of size) while keeping quality high?

I currently use Adobe Photoshop to "optimize" my graphics, there must be something better out there?

Thanks!

Better than Adobe PhotoShop?

That is a professional package and can definately hold it's own against the best of them.

You could try to use Advanced Jpeg Compressor, this is only the trial version and you would have to purchase the full though it is supposed to be pretty good also.

Does it have to run on your PC or can it be web based?

I could whip up something web based if there's enough interest.

I will specifically say that if you are not finding what you need with Photoshop, you aren't using the software to it's fullest! Photoshop is the industry standard for a reason. It offers you everything you will need as an end-user, commercial or home.

Also: Be very specific if you're looking for different types of graphics. Are you looking to compress home pictures? Web pictures? What do you want to do with these pictures? By answering these questions you will find out if you want to use JPG or GIF. Photoshop offers all you need to maximize and get the most out of these formats, so don't ditch photoshop. Spend some time working in photoshop rather than spending time finding a new program.

If you're looking to dig into the compression options for GIF/JPG:
Open your file in photoshop -> File -> "Save for Web & Devices..." and you will see on the right hand side a number of presets! Check through those pre-defined sets and see if you can find what you want through there, and you can fine-tune your compression to fit your needs. In the lower right hand you'll see your selected file format along with total size and download time.

Enjoy! Photoshop will do you right, just spend some time on it! Don't give up!

I'm a little belated with my response here -- had to add my 2 cents worth -- but Turbine is correct. You have everything you need to do this properly within Photoshop. You don't even need to have the brand, spankin' new version either.

As Turbine suggested, use the Save for Web option. Explore different formats and number of colors in the palette and type of palette (Selective, Adaptive, etc). Take a good hard look at PNG format as well. For most situations you can achieve all you need with these tools.

I never looked for JPEG compression software other than Photoshop's Save for Web, because the ratio at which it can compress images always impressed me. 1024x768 photo about 50 KB in size -- what else do I need?

Would be nice to find some freeware though, that maybe could do that job on right-click...
