Graphics tablet advice

Hi, I'm looking to buy a graphics tablet for around $400–$600 I'll be using it for Illustrator mostly. Any suggestions? and what are the top brands?

Thanks for your time.

There's Wacom, DigiPro and Aiptek.

I've only ever used Wacom. I have both the Intuos3 6x11 which is my primary tablet and Graphire4 4x5 for the laptop.

The one for you will depend on your monitor size, whether you have a dual setup and desk space.

If you have a 4:3 single monitor, get a 4:3 pad.

If you have a 16:9 widescreen monitor, get a 16:9 pad.

If you have dual monitors, get a wisecsreen pad and you can span both monitors easily.

Thanks for the advice I never thought about monitor dimensions. The Intuos3 looks good.

I can't speak for the others tablets made by the other manufacturers but I'm extremely happy with my Intuos3. Plus I got the special edition one, came in gloss black (: Sweet.

I cant think of any particular benefits you would get of a Graphic tablet for Illustrator, for Photoshop tho its a major upgrade from a mouse.

But if you are buying one there is nothing worth buying except Wacom, and stay away from the Bambo.

You can't think of anything beneficial having a tablet with a vector software? HUH?

Just to name a few (As a tablet owner & vector designer myself):

1.) Free handed drawing (like pencil to paper) using the Pencil tool.
2.) Free handed Points / curves using the Pen tool.
3.) Free handed erasing to trim up or eliminate objects using the Vector Eraser tool.
4.) Free hand slicing to cut out sections of an object using the vector knife tool.
5.) In General, more freedom with your wrist allowing you to create smooth lines, curves, & feathering.
6.) The ability to simply flip over your pen & erase a mistake with the "tilt feature" of the tablet (Just like erasing a mark on paper with a pencil eraser).
7.) Auto adjusting pressure sensitivity allowing your lines to auto size (Thinner or thicker) as you draw depending on how hard you press down.
8.) And Much, Much, More!

The above are just a few randomly off the top of my head that I use daily. I guess you have to be a vector designer to realize the potential of a table

Well, at least seems like theres someone here that knows about tablets. I second all said by scorpionagency, specially in point #8

I dont mean to be rude, but why does people talk if they don't know? To say a tablet don't help that much and it's like a mouse, evidences a BIG LACK of knowledge... It's alike to say a control remote does not help too much with a tv
