Icon Design. Should I do it? Rate My Skills!

Hey guys,

I've been wondering if I should open up my own little icon shop. I know there is fierce competition from such sites like iconbuffet and templatemonster. So, I'm a little reluctant to jump in.

Also I've never created icons before so I gave it a shot.

The following are my chat icons.

Sizes: 48 x 48; 24 x 24; 16 x 16
Icons displayed:

Online, Offline, Online via Mobile Device, Busy, Be right back/Away, Blocked (Online), Blocked (Offline).



I'm probably gonna include a Lunch icon as well.

Rate it out of 10. Also if you have anything else to add (like more icon ideas, areas of improvement, any criticism, etc) PLEASE add it below.

I think they're fantastic! Simple (in a good way!) and stylish. The only thing I have a question about is the "away/brb" icon. I'm not sure what that "L" thing is. (or maybe it's obvious, and I'm just too tired to see it? lol) What about using an "A" for away?

Overall, extremely well done!

I think the "L" is not really an "L" but representing a clock

I like the icon's, pretty well done for your first time at em.

Ya the L is supposed to be a clock. (I've been trying to make that more obvious).

More gloss eh? I guess I could do that (by just modifying the gradients).

They look great! Good stuff Skinny! The 16x16 looks so small though.. but still look great!

Took all your comments into consideration.

I've modified the set a bit and made them more glossy by introducing higher contrast.

At 16x16 things do get small and I'm not sure if I should offer that size for this set or not.

They look like a good start. I agree with some of the others though, try to get the clock to look more like a clock. One hand longer than the other. Maybe put the hand on the right at a different angle.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will fix that one up . . .I'm not as happy with it as well as the others.

I guess the next question for everyone would be what would you be willing to pay for this type of quality? What is a reasonable price? Would people even buy icon sets (doesn't have to be this one of course)?

I would really appreciate the input.

or maybe you can sharpen the point of the clock hand just to emphasize that it's a pointer or a clocks hand...

Looks good...they do look like gummy bears. I would give it a 9. I like the coloring done on them.
