Scan your crest, put it as background, lower its opacity and draw on top of it.
You might stylize/alter it a little - for example by simplifying the details, so it works better in smaller size.

Varelse has the right idea.

I would sketch a large version of it and scan it in my computer.

Do you have Photoshop? or a good graphics editor?

If so then you can do what was mentioned and draw over your drawing and then resize it correctly.

If not then you can hire someone to draw it for you and return it to you in good form(I would send them the scanned image).

Post the crest here and lets take a look at it. It will help give a better idea of what's expected.

I've uploaded it as my profile image if that helps. Does anyone know where I can get someone to draw this for me and then I can finish the logo myself? I don't mind paying someone just don't want to pay a company to do the whole logo as I can manage myself once I have the drawing.

mcwb201, use the attachment feature and post as high a resolution as possible. The image in your profile pic is too small to denot any details.

Ya it's very difficult to determine what the details are in the face and below the bird. Without those details, it would be impossible to properly replicate it. The best that can be done would be to interpret the details and that honestly wouldn’t be a good idea.

If there is any way to get a better image. It can be the same subject but taken without such a blur, it would make things easier and keep the work in-line with what it actually is, less interpretation.

okay, well ill try and get a higher quality image. But really the crest only needs to be very very simple and so some details can be left out.

How would you advise I went about getting it drawn, do you know anyone who would do it? As i said, I don't mind paying something.

You can either draw the new logo by hand - for example on a copy of the original one, then scan it and finish the design in your favourite program (vector one recommended).
Or you can scan the original and work on it without the hand drawing part - it depends on your preference only.
As others had said - uploading the crest image would be helpful for sure.

My first question would be, whats the end result? Web? Print?

I would definitely start with a vector layout. To get all the line work out of the way first. Whether its strictly vector or you want some hand painted details, that's up to you.

You'll have to determine the level of detail that you want. And obviously, because there isn't a color palette, you'd also have to decided on that. I mean you can leave those up to the artists as well or take his ideas into consideration but ultimately its going to be your call.

If a simple silhouette is what you need, it could look like this.

Hi Varelse,

Thanks for your effort! Yes, that is the right crest. I tried sending you a personal message but apparently you need 10 posts before you are able to.

What you've done looks great. Would you be able to help my further? I want to end up with something similar to the logo on this site: wdebroe.com/ but instead of the crest on green I want it on royal blue.

The other logos you have done look really good too!

I am quite happy to pay a something for your help.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt, show the final logo you had designed - from what I've seen it's really worth sharing

Looks good.

You should have mentioned it was for an 80x80 spot on a banner. That might have helped shut most of us up and get it done sooner.
