Im using one big image of website made in illustrator...Then slice it up and save for web...then I can remove the giffs i dont need..and add text or banners.etc..
When image ready slices it chops up the whole image and saves the individual peices into an html table, ready to be edited in html editor(pshop cant do that). this is really usefull to me because i prefer to plan the whole website in illustrator..
image ready says that its optimizing but its not actually it seems..which is bizare becuase its an adobe product, and the one in pshop works fine for individual images.but cant do batch from a folder.....

when photoshop saves for web, it also saves the html and gifs, a lot of people of here do it that way.
simply import your image from illustrator to PS, slice it, save for web, and you should have your desired result.
EDIT : Just tested it, and it doesnt actually put it in a table, but still that's easy enough to do yourself.

1. check your output settings in imageready
2. use "save optimized as"
hope that helps.

Ok I just did what you said.......
But when I re intruduced one of the slices back into pshop-then brouht up 'save for web' again, I noticed it was possible to reduce the file size again, by quite a substantial amount!?..

yeah was gonna say, check the settings too...
plus, i don't think you have any other choice than save as optimized, if you wanna save as GIF, anyway.

ok..this wierd I re intoduce one of the sliced giffs back into pshop saveforweb..2 up, it shows it can be shrunk again!..but when I actually do it the file size turns out larger!!!
--im not making this up, nor am I a complete novice at pshop.
but i do need to get to the bottom of this problem, obviously i would like the image sizes to be as small as I can get them!..
thank you..maybe someone else can try it and tell me whats happening. Daveboy?

Yes I am, have you never put a file back in after you've optimised it, just to check to see?...
I suppose ill just have to go with what phsop says the 1st time round, cant let this prob take up 2 much more time..
Cheers.

i hope nobody minds if i jump in. im not sue exactly if youve found your result but if i can expand a bit on the photoshop side of it...?
i use the technique of slicing in ps7. when i 'save for web' in the new window you can save the entire image as an html, which, as you said, slices it up and saves the files acordingly. but... within the 'save for web' window, you can also save individual slices rather than the whole thing.
this is done easily by simply clicking the slice you want, then save and when the save box comes up, choose, selected slices and save it as a jpg. (in this case, you could have selected more than one to save of course by shift-clicking your slices. (keep in mind, you can also raise or lower the compression for each individual slice before you save so you can do a combination of several compressions in one html file.
