Under 18 in affiliate marketing
Alright guys, I am 16. I have been looking around the internet for ways to make money, and I have discovered that I can make decent money through design/writing, but I really want to get into affiliate marketing. Well, most affiliate marketing networks "require" you to be 18, although I have heard they are very loose with this policy.
So, I am asking two things; one, do affiliate networks really care how old you are, and two, are there any networks that do accept teens?
I am also wondering about tax and payment issues.. Some sites require your Social Security number, which I don't really want to give out, especially because that could tell them that I am under 18. Plus, if I do end up getting paid more than $600, I will have to fill out one of those forms. Will I run into any problems down the road?
I am 16, so I can legally be employed by a normal organization, so I am wondering why affiliate sites care so much.
Please provide your advice.

Both Neverblue.com and Maxbounty.com accepted me before I was 18. They don't care that you are under 18 and treat you like you were working at a normal job like they should. So you will receive tax forms, but that is ok because even if you are under 18 you will get tax forms when working at a place like McDonalds or something

All affiliates network, do not mind if any of there affiliates are less than 18 or more than 18. But some affiliates network are very strict in such cases, and they do ask for verification. So before you join any affiliates, just make sure you ask some reviews from teenagers, who are affiliates and part of those sites.

Any site that asks for your social security number will use it to report the income to the IRS. Therefore, if you do not pay taxes on that money expect to pay fines and interest for not reporting the income. The fines and interest will likely be about double what you would have originally had to pay, in addition to the original amount owed.
As far as not being 18, I don't think it would matter to anyone except the company. IOW - not against the law to tell them any age you want to tell them. But if they find out, they could use it to suspend residual payments (if any).

That's a smart mom. I wonder whether my mom would've been so kind.

They have a min. age because you have to be a certain age to sign a contract.
You have to check the law the contract follows. They usually say what country/state law prevails. <-- this goes for of legal age too

Yes, but you can also get a job when you are only 15
Why shouldn't that apply online as well?
Luckily several affiliate networks agree and accept affliates that are minors

well legally minors cannot sign contracts.
well usually you can get away with it, but the problem will come when you will start to earn some serious money.
then it will be a problem.
i would suggest you get someone in home at teh age of 18+ and convince them that you can work and earn.
as for paypal you can get money from paypal without problem.

AFAIK, all companies based in USA will accept you if you are 13+. So you don't need to worry about it. But don't try to fool the tax system unless you know what you are doing. Else you would be in trouble.

Really? That sounds very interesting. I am new to affiliate marketing and struggling to convert my efforts into cash.

I was doing affiliate marketing before I was 18. They don't really care but use parent info if you need to

I'm 14. I often found that age wasn't quite an issue, when trying to sign up for affiliate networks.
I have attempted to register at many different networks, but I have noticed that most networks want their publishers to be a running fully-established affiliate network business, before you sign up.
I've never managed to get approved (have lost hope, and no longer want to be). Despite having run 50-page websites, receiving 2000 hits daily (which is a decent start), none wanted me. I would consider myself to have been a genuine publisher, experimenting, replacing AdSense ad units to see if I would earn more or less.
I'm past that and am now satisfied with the amount that AdSense is paying (in comparison to the amount that I thought it would pay, back when I implemented it), after establishing that the reason why I was not earning as much as I thought I could - was due to using the wrong size units (336x280 produces a reasonably high CTR).
