Question Creative Commons Search - free image to use?

If you go to Creative Common Search at http://search.creativecommons.org/ and tick both options:
Search for works I can use for commercial purposes AND Search for works I can modify, adapt, or build upon,

Can I use the images on the search results on my blog freely? Or do I still need to:
- Contact the owner of the photo asking for a permission and
- Put a link back to the Flickr Page

Also, can I just hotlink to the Flickr image location from my blog post as well?

From the bottom of the Creative Commons Search page you showed above:
Quote:
...may lead to the inclusion of results which are not Creative Commons licensed. You should always verify that the work you are re-using has a Creative Commmons license attached to it.
So they are saying it's still your responsibility to verify.

Okay, but sometimes it's hard to because no information is clearly specified on the photo page at times.

Attribution - does this mean linking from the photo to the original flickr page is enough?

I know a few big sites got blamed for not putting enough attribution and they have to put "Photos by Mr. X" and then linked to his Flickr profile, etc

PlagiarismToday's take on the Google image search Creative Commons feature:
Quote:
...The new feature promises to find images available for a variety of reuse scenarios, including commercial use, and actually make Google Image Search an effective way to find images for repurposing.

As promising as this sounds, the system isn’t quite perfect, though it is a great first step....

Thanks for that link.

Also, after doing some more research on the net, the safest way is to find out on his/her profile page. If such info is not found, use the Photo by Mr.X and link to his/her Flickr page
