I don't feel that selling or buying is illegal.

If everybody where you are from feels that replicas are okay and you have laws in place that say, we don't give a !@#@# about copyrights and trademarks, cool. I'd like to know where that is, so I can do business there.
If you are like me and from the USA, the powers that be would beg to differ. Just because I ,as a private citizen, don't think something is wrong, the laws of the land will set me straight every time.

Have to agree with him. As much as we might disagree about it being "wrong", wrong has nothing to do with it. The legitimate business owners having money in the pockets of lawmakers who then say it's wrong, makes it illegal.
It also depends on the likeness of the product. If you use their name and have a similar likeness of the product, they can sue you at the very least and you may even be open to criminal charges I believe. Now if you don't use their name, and only have similar likeness, it may still fall under the illegal category. The further away from their name and likeness the better.

Me and a guy I grew up with started doing that a few years ago. Business was going real good and I was making about 6x my normal annual income. However, business went a bit down hill when we got a call from the government about about operating without a business license

If the police are raiding stores, flea markets and open air markets here to seize this type merchandise, I would think it's illegal.

Um, counterfeit goods are ilegal in the UK. People are getting busted for distributing fake goods every day. Here's the latest example: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/s...st/8326568.stm.
Check it out.

Oh, as with all things, do check with a lawyer before you start doing this, please. They should know the local laws. Do it for your own sake. And by the way, we all presumed you are talking about the USA.
