If You Were To Die Tomorrow, What Would Happen To Your Websites?

What sort of plans and preparations have you made for your websites in case you pass away?

Well, nothing. No plans to die so soon i Hope
But if i die i think all my websites die with me, as ALL my passwords are encrypted in one file using my personal app which i coded myself, so no-one will be able to retrieve them as only i know how to decrypt them.
And unfortunately no one will be able to access my Pc as it is password protected(no one in my family is knowledgeable enough to crack it), infact my brother would just sell off my Pc. lol
Yeah, my hosting and domains would expire and that's it. History

Well as of now everything would eventually die and expire if the woman quit paying the bill, but when my sites grow a bit more imma share more with her just incase. Right now they dn't make enough money to matter.

I will sell my sites at the down-to-earth price because my sites should not die due to my absence.

Great question. At the moment, nothing. I expect they would fall off the face of the web.

Given that they are valuable entities what steps can be taken to ensure that they end up in the right hands? If you bequeath someone your website in your will, do registrars have to cough up the domains? Who actually *owns* the intellectual property?

All of my websites which are many will fall into the hands of my wife and hopefully she takes advantage of them. She can also make a decent profit every month is she continues to maintain them.

For me nothing. I will let it be deleted after the domain expires.

It'd be nice if my wife took over...but busy with her work as she is, I'm kinda uncertain...in such case, I'd happily transfer the ownership of the sites to some of my trusted friends and partners online who have worked with me on my sites...

I haven't put much thought into that. Wow. I provide hosting (reseller) for a few clients so this is definitely something to consider. I think one of my first projects of 2010 will be figuring out a plan

Something else to think of . . .
Write down your passwords to public e-mail accounts etc. As I've read in the news a couple times that Yahoo, AOL etc. Won't let family members into the account after the account holders death unless they have the password.
Maybe facebook etc. are the same way?

A very good question! About a year ago, my brother in law had a heart attack, and when I went to see him in the hospital, he gave me all his passwords, pin numbers, usernames, etc., to help his wife handle things in case he had another.
That made me stop and think, so I added provisions in my will to pass on sealed envelopes to each of my clients, as well as my wife, listings of all the accounts, usernames, passwords and pin numbers that might affect them.

One step closer to being able to check out, I guess!

^sorry to hear about your brother in law Doc...

anyways, well, the truth is, I'm with most of the replies in this thread, I haven't actually thought of it. I mean, who thinks of dying. If I were to think of it I'd probably think of things like who to leave the house or car to (if I'd get to the point that I'd get myself one of those) or the money that I will leave behind. but not the websites/blogs that I have... the truth is I don't really see myself doing the same thing, I mean earning from websites, for a long time... after saving up some money I'd probably go after my dreams and goals when I was a kid... to travel and to learn how to fly a plane, when that time comes, I'd probably give the usernames and passwords of my sites/blogs to a friend. cause none of my family are into earning from the web..
