are there copyright in item's name??

hi,I'm planning to create portal website.
but maybe displaying text excerpt and thumbnail of other website is clearly copyright infringement.
so I consider whether displaying only item's name of other sites is legal or not?

for example,

Moore the merrier at Hasty Pudding celebration - The Boston Globe
Ford posts biggest annual profit since '99 - Jan. 28, 2011
Readers' wedding photos - Boston.com
Officials: Teen shot in West Bank clashes - CNN.com

What you ask is really two different questions. Yes, a name is protected. But news is a fair use exception. Just make sure you are actually using it as news. And the amount you are using is probably also fair use.

I would use the same standards whether the company you are taking the information from is large or small.

With regard to spam, google is always tweaking its algorithm. Many auto blogs get some google traffic, but not as much as if they had created their own content. And it is google's long term goal to devalue these type of sites so that they have lower and lower rankings. How long will you be able to rank? That is impossible to know and depends on a lot of factors. The question becomes how much time and effort do you want to put into building something that will always take a lot of time and effort to keep in front of google's changes.
