Amazon Sues 1,114 Fiverr Users For Offering To Write Fake Product Reviews

Shop owners looking for reviews need to read this:
Quote:
Amazon has filed a lawsuit accusing more than 1,100 members of the freelance marketplace Fiverr of offering to post phony product reviews on Amazon.com.

As Geekwire first reported, todayís lawsuit comes on the heels of an Amazon sting operation in which the company paid some of the Fiverr members named in the suit. Posting phony reviews goes against Amazonís terms of service, and Fiverrís rules also ban its members from performing work that violates a third partyís terms of service. The lawsuit isnít targeting the merchants who may have hired these defendants to post fake reviews, nor is it targeting Fiverr.

While I may have said a negative thing or two about Amazon at some time, I wholeheartedly support them in this lawsuit and encourage all reputable online merchants to do the same.

The era of fake reviews is long since past.

Can we hope that tweets and likes can not be too far behind?

I doubt it. Amazon is a US-based company, so I guess the sue is on US-based fake suppliers. That cannot stop those coming from other countries, so it will continue for a while.

Maximum Amazon sellers bought positive reviews from Fiverr.

It's just a scare tactic to get them off/to stop. It won't hold up in court, but it'll never get that far.

After all this drama, I still see people seeking reviews for their products on various IM forums which still amazes me. I think it might be a case wherein their team can makeout fake reviews.

I am looking forward to the day we shall begin to have real tweets and likes from fiverr. Oh how elated i will be for thousands like me have fallen victim to the sham called "fiverr 500 tweets and likes".

I personally feel that amazon should review its way of ranking items other than via reviews. But then again, people would always find ways of trying to game the system, just like on Google !
