We use constant contact. They aren't the best, but they do the job well. Good tracking & statistics.

Constant Contact is really good if you are managing a list, want sign-up for your website and to generally have someone else worry about "black lists" or complying with the CANN Spam Act. For quick campaigns to limited lists.. it is a bit overkill I suspect.
We migrated from ListBuilder a year ago and haven't looked back...though.. at least CC' just charges a flat-fee rather than per email which is nice.
For more desktop-related tools.. you can see a list we have here on our site, we review them for our newsletter and Graphics.com.

and an article archive on HTML Email, Email Marketing and especially troubleshooting design aspects on HTML & Flash Email.

Good luck...

As a person very much involved in email marketing I can suggest you several good and reputable email vendors.
I use SKYLIST for sending my email newsletters. Also, you could check out Constant Contact, Email Labs, SilverPOP and find the best package for your needs.
When choosing your email vendor it is very important to know that ithas a good cooperation with ISPs because of the delivery.

I just put up a site where you can post or read reviews of autoresponder/follow-up/broadcast-email software and services.
Yes, the site was just born (because of this thread and because all of the other review sites don't seem very comprehensive), but I plan to write and post some very detailed reviews of the major services within the next few weeks.
If you have experiences you would like to share, please submit a review.
Thanks,
-- Terrel

Hi, I wanted to know why not using a internal mailing list software such as Mailman.
I plan to deliver a monthly newsletter to our customers, they are less than 400 at this time.
Regards!

These kinds of things used to work pretty well. However, with the proliferation of spam, many ISPs have taken it upon themselves to immediately toss anthing with a signature from an application that is known to be used by spammers. For the most part, legitimate delivery companies have made the efforts to build good relationships with ISPs so that if there is a problem, the ISP knows it will be properly handled.
You could try such a product, but consider that on the first complaint of spam, your host might shut you down. At 400, it's probably not much of a risk, but then there are places like ezezine.com that allow you to send out up to 1000 per month at no charge, schedule the email in advance, and test it. To me, it wouldn't be worth the risk.

Thanks Papadoc for your explanation, one more thing, I forgot to mention, I run my own dedicated servers, when you talk about the host do you mean who owns the server (in this case is me) or the datacenter where I have my servers?
Regards!

Whoever owns the IP address that you are on is the first that will be targeted. Or if it is part of their assigned range, I seriously doubt they are going to mess around long with any complaints. I've heard of people being told that their servers are disconnected and to come pick them up... and to bring a check for $5000 for clean up if they want the servers back.
They have to. They have other customers and they cannot afford to deal with complaints or have a major ISP block their whole IP range. It's put more than one datacenter out of business.
But you are missing the point. Mail applications have a signature attached to them. ISPs know these sigs and they block them right up front. It used to be that just the Earthlinks and AOLs of the world used to block them. Now, many corporate hosts also use software that is designed to cut back on spam and also block them. I don't know about Mailman, but I do know several that have lower than a 10% pass-through rate.

Thanks a lot for your advice.
I will take a look at Constant Contact, Ezezine and others.
It would be interesting to know how to find which of them have deals with the ISP's.
I've read the links mentioned in this posts but did not find so much information in them.
Regards!

They don't have deals. They have understandings and have built relationships with trust. This is why these outfits act quickly. If they don't, they lose the trust... and their business.

ISP don't make deals with spammers. At least ones that don't want to become their own private network don't. I work for an ISP in the abuse dept. I have to deal with this on a daily basis. One recent spammer we caught signed up 15 seperate accounts all with stolen cards. At 11:30 on a Friday night he started spamming, After over 400 complaints an hour from AOL the accounts were caught and all nuked within 3 hours of his start time. If we had ignored this AOL would have blocked our mail servers and we'd have had a LOT of upset users that were unable to send email to grandma at AOL the following Saturday.
If you have an idea of a service you wish to use I'd suggest going to Google "groups" and searching for their domain and or the software and watch for posts about them in the "news.admin.net-abuse.email" newgroup. Better yet just pop in there and ask about them. This is the ISP abuse dept hangout. If they have a bad rap they will tell you in a second.
