Hi Herdsman,

Do u have any website about your biz? If no then U can create one or if u have already any website then start promote it. Do SEO and SERP for Better ranking and Traffic. U can make a Blog and Publish your Biz details and News Every day.

If u dont want to make any website in this moment then u can go for article marketing. I think this is one of the best way to get targeted traffic to your Biz! there is so many article directory in the web like ezinearticle.com articlesbase.com buzzle.com etc. U just start writing about your Niche and publish it in the article directory. But having a website is most important if u want to do online biz.

Also u can go for PPC but in the initial stage I don't think its a good idea.

and lastly i want to say go for a free website or blog like Blogspot and make a free blog. Update the Blog Daly and at first tell your family and friends about your blog and then Start SEO and SERP. But u have to learn First about SEO and SEPR if u want to do it your self. I do internet marketing from last 3 years and still i am learning

ones u have some idea about Internet marketing then u can go for a real website!

Hope u will success in this field, Let me Know if u need any help.

Thanks
Kayes

You can easily promote it by doing SEO. I assume you know what SEO means. You can learn and do it yourself.

Write a few articles related to your field or business and submit them to ezinearticles.com or some other article directory. Other website owners my publish the articles on theirs site. A resource box at the bottom of the article will credit you and your site.

There are plenty of suggestions on this thread for generating traffic. I'm no traffic expert, so I'll stick to what I'm best at: conversions.

Traffic is all well and good. But if your website isn't effective at converting your visitors into leads or sales, it won't do you any good.

I'm working on a book called "How To Turn Your Website Into A Client Generating Machine." Obviously, I can't rehash the whole book here. But I'll give you a few pointers...

Your home page has two important jobs beyond simply "engaging" your visitor:

1. Communicate your Core Marketing Message (more on this later).
2. Direct your visitors to an opt-in page so you can capture them as a lead in your database.

Your Core Marketing Message must communicate 3 important things very clearly and in a compelling way:

1. Who you are and what you do. (The most basic element.)
2. What benefits you provide to whom. (In other words, know your buyer and what's important to them.)
3. Why they should do business with you. (Your unique selling proposition.)

Your "About" page isn't about you. It's really about your visitor. When a visitor clicks on it, what they really want to know is what you can do for them, and why they should believe you. Use it to communicate your Statement of Differentiation.

Include a testimonials page, or sprinkle them throughout your site.

Be sure your product/service descriptions communicate benefits and not just features. A feature is a fact about your product or service (such as size, weight, materials, etc.). A benefit is what that fact will DO for your prospect. (For example, help them save money, look more beautiful, etc.)

Your contact page should have FULL contact details: phone, physical address, etc. Small business owners are much better about this than internet marketers. This one little things helps build trust. I have chosen NOT to do business with someone because I have no idea where they're located and no way to contact them except through an online form.

Finally, make sure you're listed in local directories such as...

local.yahoo.com
maps.google.com
yelp.com
insiderpages.com

You might even try superpages.com or yellowpages.com.

Just a few quick thoughts. But if you do these things effectively, you'll have a website that is an effective customer-generating tool rather than simply an online brochure like 99% of small business websites.

Herdsman,

If you are a small business more than likely your competition are as clueless as you when it comes to the internet.
More than likely they hired a webmonkey who slapped up a pretty template, took the money and ran. There are very few professionals in this business. This is good for you.

Make it a hobbie to learn how to do this. You put some effort in it and you'll beat the local competition. Start out slow and put a couple hours into it a night. Don't try to take on the world with dreams of getting rich.

Start out but putting up a site that answers all the questions your customers have asked in the past. You don't need, in fact its better not to have a content management system.
Buy a simple wysiwyg editor (Frontpage, expression, etc) and start playing with it. Don't get a complicated editor that takes longer to learn than to build the site itself.

Start out by just making your business name come up in the engines, and then you and the family sit down one night and write down all the "keyword Phrases" you believe people would type to find your product or service.

Example - "widgets bumfu*k, Georgia" - if you want a certain keyword phrase - build a page for it (down the road you can get multiple keywords per page once you get a handle on this stuff, , but for now - one phrase per page) Devote the page to it.

Don't sweat the placement just yet, think of it for now as a service to clients/customers, put the web address in your current ads, business cards, etc.

most of the people posting on webmaster forums are total noobs trying to get a worthless link to their site posted (what the easy way isn't the best way? go figure!) or scammers trying to make a buck (99%) - common sense wins out.
Don't worrry about "linkbacks" they are almost worthless (What say it ain't so - everybody says ... they're noobs or selling links....lol). PR is a myth, don't bother, use your time more productively - build.

An example of a small business site (ok I'm a retired pro and went a little overboard on this freebie for them) - hey I was bored....lol
But it's an example of getting keywords (targeting) that will attract the kind of people you're looking for - keywords & placement - http://64.62.146.152/1/keywords.htm (Bye the way this site has a PR of 0)

make it a hobbie and relax.

Promoting a new business is a difficult, long-term task that is accomplished over several months, years no business is an overnight success. Also, it is important to apply several different strategies as there is no one concept that's applicable to every type of business.
The hardest aspect of an online business is getting visitors to convert to paying customers. To do this, it is necessary to bring targeted traffic to your site i.e. people that are a fit for whatever you are selling or the service you are offering. Are these people interested, are these your prospects?
Then your price has to be competitive amongst others in your field so there are a whole lot of things that go together to turn a lead into a sale. To this point, I have something that I want to giveaway for free and I am having a hard time figuring out what's the best avenue to use in order to get hundreds of thousands to take it. This is a feel-good-product or can be viewed as inspirational or motivational - what is the best way to spread something like this quickly, fast and easy? Any ideas would be welcomed. Is there a script that could be used?

By searching the forum and taking a look at the posts made by people, you will learn a lot of points on how to create, launch, promote, optimize and advertise commercial websites over the net in professional ways.

You need to read a lot of points about which products to select, the keywords to target, how competitive the online market for your web products is, the perspective of buying PPC programs for having traffic for some time and more points.

Take my advice - or you'll whine up like these .... "*******", posting worthless babble on forums in hopes someone will click on a sig or their sig spamming will get them some placement - somewhere. It won't.
