Yellow Pages - Is It Worth It?
Is it worth getting listed in the Yellow Pages? How much does it cost? I couldn't find out any information about how much it costs. Any help would be appreciated.

Stealth,
Depends on the business. I've never used them for anything web related. I dropped em for my printing business because I just got garbage calls. I have heard many success stories too. Just like SE, it depends somewhat on where you are listed and what you say (if you run and ad-more bucks)
Call them up, they will be glad to tell you how much.

Hello StealthNet3000.
>Is it worth getting listed in the Yellow Pages?
A line listing is worth it, but I've never received a ROI with display ads. Having your number in the phone book helps you look more credible.
>How much does it cost?
A line listing comes free with a business phone number. I switched my home phone to a business line and it is only three dollars a month more.
You have to call each phone book you want a display ad in individually.

I'd say conventional advertising is still worth it.... after all - not everyone is as web savy as us folk....

I agree. All businesses need a balanced marketing plan. But, it is different for different types of businesses.
You can always try the yellow pages for a while and then stop if it doesn't do anything for you.
I also agree that there may be some local credibility factor.

As Per my Experiance Yellow pages Listing is useful if they listed link of your web site this is better from optaimization point of view ans as far as business point of view, You First try free listing and then go for paid One there are many Yellow pages which are free list your Business try them frist, and it is also true that the nature of business is also Improtant coz Different type of Business need Different type Of Efforts and i don't know about your business nature, Over all Yellow pages Listing is Useful and more helpful in the case of that yellow page publish in both mode online as well as offline.

Yellow Pages
I think fewer people use the yellow pages these days.
A lot use Google as a phone directory.
I would recommend if you are wanting to expand your advertising to use local media such as one of the weeklies that also has a web presense and make sure your link is a live link in your listing on their web site.

Also try the local TV stations, my local has really cheap ad spaces on both tv and teletext.

I'm about 45 minutes from Philadelphia and Atlantic City, TV ads aren't cheap.

hi,
from my experience the only time slots available for cheap tv ads are during the early hours of the morning, or on channels that do not receive a high level of viewers.
As for the yellow pages thing, there have been a few goods points raised. From dealing with yellow pages for i think 5 of my clients during the past year or so, the success has been mixed. One client has had basically nothing in terms of ROI, whilst another client gets a fair amount of business from both the actual yellow pages and the online yellow pages.
I guess it really depends on what business you are in. It may be worth you trying the line ad as its free, after all you've not got anything to loose.

The other thing about TV ads - I have to make an ad. I have a lot of ideas but I don't know where I could film them and who I could film.

oh yeh, forgot about that cost!
unless you know some media studies college student who knows what they are doing and you can convince will get much more value from the "experience" than from any "fee", it'll cost a few thousand $$ to get one done.
I looked into the whole tv ad thing a while back for a UK based project and i think the total bill for a half decent one was somewhere between £5000 and £10,000 although some companies will try and convince you you can have a tv ad for around £3500, it doesn't work out like that - well it didn't for me anyway - ended up scrapping the idea as it cost so much and looked into advertising at sporting events instead

I could make one if I rented the equipment (do have a decent sony handycam but that won't work for TV commercials). I would also need people and a place to film it. And the idea I have would require a lot of people and an office building that I would have to be able to re-arange.
