There are a number of very good providers of sequential auto responders with list management capabilities on the market.
The initial question is whether you wish to manage your own mailings or whether you want to outsource this responsibility to a third party.
If you decide to manage your own mailings, keep in mind the following issues:
1. Email deliverability: Do you have the time or contacts at major ISP's to ensure that your email gets delivered.
Although AOL has set up a service allowing mailers to apply for white listing through their web site, the other big ISPs are not so forth coming.
This is why some people (including myself) are now suggesting you be prepared to work with an accreditation service.
2. How critical is your list to your business? Do you have the technical knowledge to install, maintain, upgrade, and backup your software and list on a regular basis?
Since you are leaning towards contracting out the work to a third party, two other providers which focus on the needs of the SOHO market place.
The first is AWeber.com. Many marketers highly recommend this service. I use this service myself. The support is first rate.
The second is a new service called Emailaces.com. The owner, Gary Ambrose is highly knowledgeable and provides hands on support.

P.S. In making inquiries, four things I would check:
* Is the provider white listed with AOL?
My understanding is that AWeber and Emailaces are both white listed, but you should check this point.
* Has the provider published an SPF record for their domain?
AWeber and Emailaces have.
* Is the provider working with or intend to work with an accreditation service?
AWeber is, Emailaces plans to.
* Does the provider allow for customers to provide an RSS feed?
AWeber does, Emailaces does not.
(If you are unclear on the significance of these issues, please read
Who Pays And How To Survive The Email Transition.)
* Are any of the IP addresses of the mail servers for the provider listed on the SBL black list.
The IP addresses for AWeber and Emailaces are not.
I have referenced the SBL black list simply because roughly 40% of mail box providers around the world rely on the Spamhaus Block List in determining whether an IP address is a source of spam.
