Cool Is the majority in the same boat or...?

Do you find yourselves wondering how other people out surpass your online goals? I feel like that sometimes. It seems no matter how hard I try to promote my products and services, I keep coming across someone who "hit it big" and made thousands of dollars within seven days of launching their site.

Makes me feel like I've got so much more to do..

Do you think these people have deep pockets for paid advertising? Or are they the exception to the rule? Am I in the majority of people trying to get their website off the ground, to what seems to be no avail? I'm I too impatient?

Would like your thoughts.

You asked:
"Am I in the majority of people trying to get their website off the ground, to what seems to be no avail?"

YES!

It sounds like you're stuck in the mid-nineties (1990's) with your game plan. Many people think that if you build a site and put products on it, you'll be successful. That's just crazy!

Exactly what kind of marketing are you doing for your site?

Are you capitalizing on the visitors you ARE getting?

Successful businesses take a lot of work. Don't be discouraged by the fact that you didn't make thousands of dollars in a few days.

If the site in your signature is the one in question, you might want to submit it for review in the 'Website Reviews' forum here.

I visited his site and it has the following quote.

"Success Quote:
"A Dream Written On Paper Is A Goal... If It's A Goal It Can Be Achieved! "

Well then I guess Bush and Kerry will both be president unless one of them did not write it down.

Yes. I know perhaps 100 or more that have and do make hundreds or even thousands per day from their web ventures --but whether it's by luck or effort, there's no doubt that they are a small percentage vs. the massive numbers churning out websites now.

I think there is a lot more than 1% luck involved, but as they say the harder you work the luckier you get.

Most of the people I know who are financially sucessful had previous business experience in the "real" world, the Internet gave them a relatively inexpensive way to transfer that knowledge to a huge market. I think of them as the middle tier.

The top tier are people who would have been sucessful anyway. Look at the Google people, a couple of college students who from a project formed a company that gives them a paper wealth in the billions. They raised $25 million to get the thing going, they had the connections, they were destined for sucess in any walk of life.

Bottom tier is a hard one to get out of. Thats where the bulk of people start and also finish. You *can* break through to the middle tier, 20 hours a day, 7 days a week for a year or so is a good start, as is a little luck.

The secret though, imho, is being able to visualise the Internet as a collection of people not as a collection of computers. Everyone of those people has wants/needs, if you can indentify and empathise with those needs you are on the right track.

As an example, fictional of course, lets imagine you had a site that sold Ladies shoes. Now thats real simple, its just shoes! HIGH HEELED SHOES FOR ONLY $4.99 and you are a winner, maybe not.

Look through the eyes of the customers, take one at random.

Maria is in her early 40's, divorced, 3 grown up kids who have moved away. After the divorce things started to fall apart, to be frank she took to the drink. She hasn't been drinking for almost a year now, but all her family and friends aren't convinced.

Then she gets THE wedding invation, from an old friend getting remarrid for the 3rd time. Her ex-husband will be there [and his new squeeze] plus assorted old friends and family.

She needs to look good on the day, she needs shoes.

Imagine you are her at your shoe web site, how many thousands of thoughts are running through her mind.

"I need to look good, I'll show them, I'll show HER, I need heels, what if i fall over in them, they will think I have been drinking, is Red too tarty, Black too formal, must be real leather, shoes are important, I remember my first ever pair of shoes, don't touch the champagne, to bow or not to bow, can I get a matching handbag, will they be here in time......."

Now I hope you agree that Maria is a real person, with real needs, if your site meets them she will buy.

She is a person not a part of the "internet", and she don't want shoes at $4.99.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to sell her a pair at $149. Then you are the way to the middle tier.

Imho of course.

You do get the occasional exceptional person such as Corey Rudl, John Reese, or our own Mr Scott who can make a lot of money quickly, but for most it's a combination of working hard and working smart - which is why I'm called Silke 24/7 - if I was Silke 8/5 I wouldn't have anywhere near the financial or business success online or offline.

My speciality isn't marketing per se - it is building and leading teams - having been managing my own business in the REAL world before starting Network marketing and then coming online and THEN network marketing online. It's been quite a journey, but then that is the whole point - success IS the journey, not the destination.

In my case, my "luck" has been in recruiting good people who wanted to run their own business - some of whom were my employees who now work WITH me rather than FOR me.

You don't "create" leaders, you find them, and once you do that, you can build a great business, franchise, network, however you want to approach this.

I have a guy I recruited into our SFI program who was a great salesman and who went off to really work the wholesale program. Another was a great recruiter.

One guy in my group was involved with ClickBank, one of the largest online companies and moderates at their forum. He introduced his CB upline to SFI and they took it and ran with it, became Presidents Club members in 90 days!
There is no way he could have recruited and trained somebody to do that- he just identified a couple of guys who were doing great with ClickBank and introduced them to SFI so they duplicated their own success with our company.

There are many success stories and they all vary, but none of them are "just luck" (that is the province of Lottery winners)

Chance favours the prepared mind.

Silke

I think if you've read everything that came before this post, you will have an answer to the posed question.

Couple of things: first, success in the real world is sort of like being in a casino. You hear about every winner, the bell rings like crazy. What you don't hear is the sound of people losing it big 99 times for every winner.

Second, as you might have already noticed a pattern, but those who make it big online probably tried a thousand other things not nearly as successful.
