Please help - I'm sooo frustrated!!
Ok, so I have just had my website - www.comparebookies.com revamped and really want to concentrate on optimizing it off-page as well as on-page.
The thing is regarding link building, because of my market (sports betting) I am finding it difficult to find relevant blogs, forums, etc that are do-follow.
Article submission sounds good but does it really pay off? I can write but don't know what sorts of things to write about that would attract people to use the content.
I would also like to pursue social bookmarking too but I am not sure it really applies to my market.
If anyone could please sling me some help it would be very much appreciated as I really want to make the site work now that I have sorted out the way it looks!
Your help is very much appreciated!

First and foremost take a deep breath. Ok now you deal in sports and when I looked at your website mainly gambling. After the review personally I think getting noticed by the blogosphere will be key to your success. Find blogs discussing poker, casinos, and others build a relationship commenting often once they notice you the backlinks will begin. Really you could even expand into the make money niche since the two are closely related. To find do follow blogs on gambling try this search http://advancedseo.nickopedia.com/20...search-engine/
Article writing should definitely be in your campaign. Heck you could write and article about why you should use a bookie, who one the last race, how to win big at a certain game, strategies of a certain game, the possibilities are endless. For a list of 400+ article directories- http://www.masonworld.com/masonworld...irectory-rank/
Now if you can submit a website to social bookmarking about making money and have it sit right next to an article explaining how to make a solar panel I am pretty sure there is room for gambling. The main social bookmarking sites are general and are good for both referral traffic and backlinks. Here is a list-http://marketing-a-website.blogspot.com/2009/05/top-55-social-bookmarking-websites.html I am sure out of the millions of people that visit these sites there will be plenty interested in your niche.
Though they don't have the "best quality links" directories offer free one way backlinks here is a list of 2k or so http://www.onewaytextlink.com/
If you have not put out a free press release you could be missing out on some killer media coverage here is a list- http://www.webmaster-elements.com/su...s-releases.htm
Well remember if you can't find websites within your niche go a little broader until you find websites suitable. Your website looks like it covers most things gambling a huge amount of the web dedicated to it probably up their with porn. You should also be looking for parnters that would work well for cross promotion either link exchange, guest post, or three way linking. Anyway I hope this helps you can also go get a cheap web cam and begin a video marketing campaign plenty of possiblities for your website to gain exposure just be sure to stay on top of everything new within your niche and attempt to be considered an expert.

Hello again!
So you like writing articles? That's good! kbeus21's advice is great, you should try it.
On the other hand, you can create a blog or add and "Article" section on your main site and post your articles there. If you want to submit your articles, first make sure that you make the first post (post it on your blog or site) before submitting so you'd get the top priority when it comes to search results.
Second, place links on your articles pointing to your main site. Make sure you're not over doing it because other people place 5+ links on their articles and uses just one URL to link to, regardless of the article/s being short. You may do this if you want but doesn't increase the effect
And last but not the least, use twitter and/or facebook it helps!
Good luck!

Thanks for your feedback too!
Regarding articles - are you saying that I can post any articles from my site to article submission sites and My site won't get penalized by Google for having duplicate content on it? From what you said, I gather that as long as it appeared on my site first it will not matter. Can someone just clear this uip for me?

Dont bother for results on initial stages. Write and submit, Social bookmarking is only going to help you temporary.
if you are looking for getting good traffic very soon then distribute some handy tools like banners or games or free themes with your website name on them.

You can simply go to the big-boards to look for sports related forums. There are plenty popular ones. There are places that you have not looked yet. Tons of places to find dofollow sites that are of your niche.

There's one common thing I know they usually do in betting or gambling market to easily optimize their site online.
"They buy link posting (mostly one-way) from famous and well-established related blogs and websites.

Marcoose,
there's no duplicate content penalty provided you don't have content duplicated within your site. If the same content appears across sites, the duplicates are just pushed off to the supplemental index.
Re: social bookmarking: be careful and do not abuse these things. If this is done the way this should be done, you will see feedback.

I think that article submission is one of the best ways to get some targeted traffic plus some ok links. But it is suggested that you first add articles to your own site and then submit to directories. This way, your site will get the credit for the new content.
