I think you'd be hard-pressed to be able to get a link exchange with any of the top 1000 sites unless they're a directory or something... Buying links, I would imagine, would be expensive.

Dating Sites: Some traffic but what % of people are dating?
Torrents: You only search for a small file then do a big download. Time spent at torrent sites is limited.
Real Estate: How many people are buying / moving
News: I forgot news sites before. What % of people looked at a new site whe n the tsunami or other major disaster happened?

Maybe the time spent on those site is short, but they attract many people by offering gratis stuff.
