Blog comments definitely hold more value than forum signature links, due to the fact that you can't get thousands of them from the same blog like you can on a forum.

Both Forum and blog comment posting is good.
Before that analysing related niche is better.

doing both is certainly much better than just posting on forums or just commenting on blogs.
you just need to work much much harder.

This tool: siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com is supposed to be very good for finding backlinks.
On the other hand, i couldnt find any backlinks from my v7n-signature to my own site.

Try to comment on high Blog sites to increase your page rank, and in the forums to get targeted traffic.

Dan Theis, StomperNet faculty SEO guru guy, says irrelevancy does not penalize. If it did, your competitor could buy thousands of links from bad neighborhood/irrelevant sites and point it to your site and knock you down in the SERPs. Supposedly, they compensate for relevant links, but do not penalize for irrelevant.

That makes perfect sense to me, yeah.
There is no understimating the lengths people would go to when trying to achieve higher rankings!

Here's another advantage of forum signatures:
When you change your signature on most forums, it changes all occurrances. Let's say you've made 400 posts, and you put up a new website. To get 400 inbound links, just change the URL in your signature. Of course, you will lose those links to your old URL, but that might be worthwhile.

It depends on what you want, if you want to improve on google search list, then post links, if you want PR better, then forums
I'm doing both, as I'm SEO of Elebo comp. (working for others too).

It doesn't matter if the comment is from the forum or the blog. What matter's is its property. If they're do-follow then each and every link is important.

It seems to me that blog commenting should be considered a bit different than forum signatures. Quick, relatively thoughtless comments on blogs may bring your blog instant traffic and links, the long-term benefits of leaving thoughtful comments and building relationships with bloggers is far more valuable.
Link dropping may bring you some traffic but the people who read your thoughtless and spammy blog comments aren’t going to respect you.
