Lightbulb Will social media destroy brands?

Hi everyone,

I was emailed this link to a clients blog the other day and was wondering what people thought of it?

[REMOVED]

Although I have been SEO'ing for a number of years. I dont spend much/any time on Facebook, Myspace, Youtube, etc marketing what I do.
As I have never found proof that the time it would take to keep these mediums up to date would actually generate any income?

I thought the blog post was really interesting as although not a massive company, my company has a brand of it's own and it gave a me some confidence that anyone can generate web/brand traffic by using the social media platforms around the net.

Although I wouldn't quite get the same coverage as Dave Carroll did if an airline damaged my guitar, they would just laugh at me.

It also made me think that I could also kill my company very easily with bad social marketing, like a company I left about 5 years ago who have failed to understand how facebook works, ie its real people who post on group walls - [REMOVED]

look forward to anyone's comments.

cheers,

No social media will not destroy brands. People are basically lazy and sheeplike, thats why companies spend so much on TV advertising etc. People follow the heard and the money men have control of the mainstream places to advertise. I time they will dominate social media as well.
