What is the best way to promote free software?

I have recently made a php powered blog which is released under a GNU GPL licence and is free of charge.

What I am here to ask, is since this is a free software, what is the best way to distribute it and avoid paying for advertising.

There are some php resource directories which you can upload the software, so people can download it from there. Here are some popular ones: resourceindex.com, hotscripts.com, and gscripts.net.

I think you should press release about the software and show up it on periodicals, magazine and different open resources.

Create a PAD file and submit it to download sites to increase the number of backlinks.

Also try writing some articles about your blog service..... and submit these to the top quality article directories. Just start to focus on quality backlinks and start getting some search engine traffic. Once you get the link out there and folks see how good it is, word of mouth will help get you some more free traffic. So far, i agree with the comments already.

Also announce your site on webmaster forums but make sure before creating the thread you follow the forums rules. Lot's of blog owners or folks thinking about creating a blog sometimes go to webmaster forums to check out all the blog services and then figure out which one they will create there account on to beging building there blog.

Hi BackStab, best way to promote your software and reach a large audience is by using one of the software submitters.

1. Pad Express
2. Promo Soft
3. Pad Add

You can do a search to get the web address. A lot of the heavy hitters swear by them. I have used Promosoft in the past and have had some success with it.

write a press release about your software.

these are all free ways to market your software.

they will take sometime to see that massive amount of

traffic but if you stay with it....you will see massive results

just give it sometime
