Is it good to register as many of your keyword phrases as domains?

Its a waist of money and one of the first SEO mistakes people make including myself.

But doo register your brand (.com, .org, .net).

sorry, I should have said they can get you in trouble. Not everyone but a lot of folks will dup their content with keyword urls and that's what can get ya in trouble.

If you 'multiplex' your keywords into URL format and then feed them to your main URL you are committing suicide. In the short term, you might see some results, but don't risk it. It is your page title that the spiders see from your 'description tags' any thing other than that is 'spamming the SE's' you won't get sandboxed, you will get buried.
Think Content, Directories - Updates and that's about it.

I would say that if you're going after something very competitive (product wise or key phrase) it wouldn't hurt to buy the domains if available and your budget allows... then stick it on sedo, get some AdSense revenue from it (very little) that way no one else running a parallel business can use it and you will probably make enough each year to pay for the domain

Good idea, Neo.

But as far as the brand vs keyword domain debate goes, there are benefits to each. It's wrong to say that branding-oriented domains will always be better, and it's wrong to say that keyword domains are better.

In some cases, you don't need a branded domain. Webmaster-Forum.net did great with a keyword domain, and with a hyphen even. And when this place was located at internet-marketing-research.net, we had awesome traffic, PR8, and a domain with two hyphens and a .net.

I think in the big scheme of things, domains mean a lot less than many people would think.
