Should you sell from Site A and Site B directly or have A and B link to C? What is the best way?

So to recap, should you sell directly from a site or create a site for selling and link to it?

Clarification:
If you have two sites in the same area but different niches, should you sell from each or set up a third site and direct them to the third from the first two sites?

I would just start w/ two then. Just make sure to avoid dup. content.

I have a few sites set up like this. two inter-linked sites w/ roughly the same focus and built for the same company.

It works great! I occupy positions 1 and 2 (or 3 & 4) for many of my search terms.
