County Yellow Pages Advertising

I'm curious to hear results for yellow pages advertising.

I want to start targeting people that aren't savy enough to look in the search engines for web design and want to get their small business up on the web.

Their is a current special in my area going for a 1/4 page ad for $106/month. The ad would be out in January 2006.

There is also a smaller more centralized version of the big book, that I use far more than the bigger book. I think it is more effective. Not sure on pricing though.

I'd like to hear your point of view.

Thanks,
Mike

Interesting concept. The first thing I would do is see how many other web design companies advertise in the yellow pages in your area. Do they even have a section for web design? In Northern Minneapolis we don't. I personally wouldn't think of looking in the yellow pages for a web design company. If I am looking for a web design company I would want to see their web site to see their work before I called.

I personally get any service I need from referrals. If I need someone to do some remodeling, I ask a few friends and someone usually knows someone they can recommend. My phone books go directly to recycling the moment they arrive.

Now if this ad also gets you listed on the yellowpages.com web site as well then it may be worth it.

Yes, I agree.

But I see tons of Contractors type companies advertising in print and such that do not have a website, and probably don't use computers much to know how to search.

I too get all my clients from referrals, but now I am MUCH faster in my work and can really do some volume. Looking for the demand...

I advertised in a local black and white flyer for a month a little bit ago. $50/per week and it covered 4 cities. I landed 4 projects from the month of advertising, so I know there is definetly a population of people that aren't necessarily looking for a web designer, but they stumble upon the ad and give it a try.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for your input.

Mike
