Automatic submissions, bad?

I've heard that automatically submitting your website online through services such as http://www.addme.com/submission.htm is bad. I am wondering why this is. If its just about the same, then I'd definately like to use a lot of services that do it for you in the interest of saving time. Thanks,
Jon Cahill

They are quite useless. Instead you better do-it-youself, and it's not as time consuming as you might think when you follow the SEO tips here.

The biggest drawback is that the majority of the search engines (and directories) they will submit you to will not do you any good and will probably get you a lot of extra spam.

Also, I hear it's a real bad idea (and it make sense) to use the exact same wording for all your submissions. I write all mine by hand on the fly.

It's often assumed that using the same anchor text in links or same descriptions in directories is bad because it will somehow result in penalties or devaluation by search engines like Google.

I doubt that this is true.

However, I do agree that it isn't good SEO. What you'd end up with using that strategy is perhaps decent ranking for a single search term. But what about other appropriate search terms? Using some of those in your anchor text where possible will spread the benefits around.

Automated submission tools may not be much helpful for your site as far as SEO is concerned. If you're thinking of something that automatically submits your site to search engines then it's pretty useless. The search engines will find your site automatically and submitting to them really isn't going to help.

You really can't submit automatically to directories since most have slightly different forms to fill out. You'd also need to make modifications to the title and description you submit to each directory depending on what kind of directory each is.

Hi Jon916,

yup, i do agree with them, where submiting your website automatically is a bad idea. Different directories with different forms to be filled up and I doubt the ability of filling those forms by automated submission tools.

Anyway, we are dealing with people, and not with the machine.

I heard using Automated submission can get your website banned from the search engines, not sure about this, can someone back this up.

Using an automated service or software to submit your website to the search engines can be extremely counterproductive. Most of the major search engines and directories accept manual submissions but do not like to be spammed with the automated ones.

Do it your self.
As they say...best to do it "with your own hands".
