I need help with a marketing camapaign slogan for a camera shop. It's a 40 year old, established camera shop that doesn't exactly do low price leader tactics. It's more of a high end shop, and business has been slower than in the past, so we're doing a local campaign.
|
Been around 40 years - anything else you know about the store?
Has it been family owned for that time? Does it have a unique product range? What have past slogans / campaigns been? What sort of image does the shop have - is it more personal than large department stores? Are the staff more knowledgable? Is it more specialised? Is it centrally located compared to competition?
What sort of "angle" is the campaign going for? What's the goal? Raise awareness? Raise sales? Is it a competition / event (40th anniversary)?
What are the competition like in the local area? What sort of campaigns do they come out with?
Gimmee some details and throw a few ideas back.

Family owned. Used to be very big in the area, but department stores have taken a toll. Pretty much the only competition is the department store two blocks away, which does the low price leader thing that Asahi Camera cannot.
Focus is on friendly, personal service and a knowledgeble sales staff, and after sale support.

Could potentially do something have a bit of a jibe at the dept. store - schoolkids as staff, selling to customers that don't have a clue vs professionals selling to professionals?
Possible idea - a press event - lot's of photographers (big cameras, lot's of flashing and general hussle) - guy turns up with a press pass and produces a throw away camera (one of those cheap cardboard efforts) - all the press stop and look at him, puzzled, mocking perhaps - cut to slogan, "Asahi Camera - where the professionals go". Or perhaps "He should have gone to Asahi Camera" (although I have a feeling that slogan belongs to someone else but I can't remember who...).
If you can run several different creatives for the campaign you could target different groups with this slogan. For example, an important family event (Japan right? Isn't there quite a strong family and corporate culture?), head of the family taking photos, again with the crappy camera - they don't turn out (all the family looking dissapointed in the background) - "He should have gone to...".
Or a corporate angle - staff member needs to take photos for the boss (company building, product, etc - something for a pitch) - they don't turn out - he's seen leaving the building with the content of his desk in a box - "He should have gone to...".

Maybe a good idea for a poster or picture on a card would be..
A picture of a grand mother taking a picture of her daughter taking a picture of her young daughter taking a picture of the family cat or dog...That would be like a mirror effect..back to the past but revieling the path the future will take...

Sounds of a busy department store. A young guy is saying "Hey, did you hear what Todd said about what Becky was doing with..."
(Respectable older gent) "Hello there, I'd like to buy a decent camera, can you recommend one? It has to be able to take high speed pictures and have a good zoom lens but I'm not too knowledgable about...."
(Youthful babble doesn't let the guy finish) "Hey, have you seen these phones, they have 2 megapixels, video and 20x zoom, with mp3 player, internet and tons of downloadables, you can get them on a two year option with...?"
"Never mind son, I think I'd better go to Asahi Camera."
"Whatever, dude! (fading away) So Craig was saying to Todd that..."
Voiceover: Asahi Camera. We'll only give you what you need because we're the only dedicated camera shop in town. Asahi Camera.
Hopefully the last bit about 'only dedicated camera shop' is true.
