What's The Best Marketing Method?
If you asked 10 different marketing experts which was the absolute best marketing method, you'd likely get 10 different answers.
Why? Because the truth of the matter is, there is no absolute best marketing method. They all work, provided they are all executed properly.
You see, it really doesn't matter what's working now, or what has worked for others in the past. None of those things really have any bearing on the type of results you can expect to achieve from a particular marketing method.
Why? Because someone else's results are specific to their individual efforts and expertise. Just like your results are specific to your individual efforts and expertise. And past performances notwithstanding, results will always vary.
Let me illustrate what I'm talking about.
Let's suppose you have two identical websites. Each website has the exact same copy and sells the exact same product at the exact same price. The traffic for both sites is from the exact same source.
Believe it or not, even with everything being equal, you would have two entirely different conversion ratios for the two sites - two entirely different results.
Why? Because things are never equal. Even when everything appears to be identical on the surface, there are always unseen variables.
So, what does all of this mean?
It means there is no best marketing method. The best marketing method is the one that works best for you. The main thing is not to fall into the trap of jumping from method to method like so many marketers do. You have to be disciplined enough to be patient. You have to give things a chance to work.
Then, when you find something that works, milk it for all it's worth. Milk it to the point of diminishing returns.

There is no one best marketing method. What works for one site may not work nearly as well for another.

I welcome your comments, but at least read what I wrote first. I opened and closed my post by saying, "There is no best marketing method."

"There is no best marketing method", I believe that's true, I also believe that you need to be ready to adapt to the changing situations around you and find ways to overcome obstacles like new Google algos etc.
Regardless of things not being the same, people strive for the same thing and thats to market their product or service and try make the most out of it. I think it would be better to say that a person should find the best marketing method for them by playing with the different areas and see where they get the best results. Then use that to their advantage and build on it.
For instance, if they create a blog, and the blog does well and drives a lot of traffic their way, they can then branch out and work on articles. I think that if the two companies you mentioned are carbon copies of each other then the only major difference there would be that there are different people marketing the site using different methods maybe.
Most of the time, regardless of the methods you use, if you persevere, you can succeed. its to get past the days when you look at your stats and see that they have dropped and find ways not to feel disheartened by it.
Your post is great though, seriously, when you see how many people are starting out with internet marketing, they post on forums almost always asking what the best method is. I think its important to find ways to let them know that there is no best method, just the best method for them, if they take the time to develop it and build on it.

Yes, they do. Hence, the reason for my original post. Thank you for your comments.

The thing that ran through my mind was that two sites with same copy and design would get penalized by Google - so I guess SEO is out
Jokes aside, I would say it depends on the niche and content.

Thank you for your comments. Perhaps I need to clarify something. The headline in my original post is rhetorical. I'm not asking, "what's the best marketing method?" I'm explaining why there is no best marketing method, in my opinion.

To clarify - I think that certain types of content and niches work better than others.
For example, if your site is on movie reviews - video promotion could be a viable option.
While if your site is on the 13th Century printed calligraphy - video promotion may not be the right fit for your target audience.

That's not what we're discussing here.

It may be one component. But it's not what's being spoken about here. Do you believe there is a perfect method?

After thinking about it, I realize everyone interprets things differently. So, I've decided to just let people respond the way they want. I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over it. Forum threads are notorious for going off the rails. It's the nature of the beast. I accept that.

I agree there's really no best marketing method
but my favorite marketing methods are
Article Marketing
Ezine Solo Ads
Banner Ads
Text Ads
Those traffic methods are very effective
for me and my business.

It's good to let others know that there is no single "best" method for online marketing success. I appreciate you trying to voice that. 'Newbies' need to understand that the "best" method or strategy is being consistent, being diligent and just staying at it.

I don`t agree guys
I don`t agree guys,, I thought on the base of product we can decided which medium is best for marketing, then we can find out is this best for product or not, just like if you marketed any FMCG product and target people is USA and teenagers and you are promoting your product in business news paper your product will not get any success so I can say that every product has best marketing method only depend on your marketer

Thank you. Unfortunately, based on the responses to my original post, some people just don't get it. Oh, well. You can lead a horse to water, but...

The best marketing method for me is one where traditional marketing strategies like the marketing mix/4Ps model is applied. It's about fighting the right kind of mix that would generate optimal results for a particular product or service. Like what OP said, it's about what works best for you and not just follow what worked for others.

I have to chuckle.....yes forum threads do tend to drift....some do not understand the OP....others are looking to post a comment for a count.....OH well..
Re: marketing methods....
consider the vast number of people who are trying to make a buck....
the vast variance in experience levels...
the broad assortment of skills....
Many of the methods have to be "learned" , a lot of folks will not take the time to do that.
Some are not capable of learning the more complicated methods that produce solid results....
The best method is the one that works best for the individual and their skill level....providing they continue to work on other systems....
IMHO

The best marketing methods are two: trial and error, and scientific, I mean, based on researches). With so many marketing companies out there, you may be able to take a look at different alternatives.
Now, if you want to ask what is the best way to advertise, we are talking about something absolutely different.
