Banner impressions Vs Page Views

HI all

Wanted to canvas other peoples opinions and views on a problem im having with advertisers on my websites.

When I look at my stats for an average day, I see that I get about 100,000 page views a day, but when I look at the impressions count for my advertsing banners they show about 2000, so a big difference!

The problem with this is that I am paid CPM, so every impression is making me more money.

The banners that I run are the same banner on the top of every page. Its a Gif or JPEG, depending on the day it rotates.

I think the problem is that most browsers these days cache a lot of the repeating content (save bandwidth and speed up the site) which is fair enough if your the browser, but as the site owner its costing me money; and without sounding mad, Im a little upset that the ad companes are getting thousands of impressions for free!!!!

So does any one else have this problem? Is there any way around it? I belive that there is some php/javascript that you can put into a page to stop browsers caching. Would advert companies see this as a violation of T/Cs?

Has anybody any other ideas of why the diffrence should be so big? Its forcing me to rethink doing a website at all, I could make enough money of this one site to survive without a proper job if I could just get the adverts sorted!

Thanks for your help in advance

No its not the cache! In the JS the request is still made and recorded.

There is a mistake somewhere. I don’t think you really get 100,000 page views a day and your stats program is probably counting hits or your site is in Frames (a frameset of 3 pages produces 4 pages of hits on the first visit and maybe more if your stats program is counting .js and .css).

Install www.google.com/analytics/ and find out how much you really get!
