Some Help for Marketing My Site:
I have just opened my forum, The Pets Club, with help from a corporate sponsor, Medi-Vet Animal Health.
I am wondering, what techniques I should use to market it. The forum is designed for pet owners to post pictures of their pets, give feedback on pet medication, and get their questions and answers about their pets from other owners.
Where should I advertise, or should I just be patient and let my banners on Medi-Vet's site do the work? Ex: http://www.medi-vet.com/dogs.aspx
Medi-Vet gets on average 2,000 uniques per day in the winter months and probably 5x that in spring and summer
Any ideas?

I have one.
I've seen this site about dalmatians and whippets. I think you should see if the owner will allow you to put a text link there. he may swap with you I'll put in a good word, lol.
Seriously though, text link ads is an advertiser here, I just signed up with them. They have some PET related sites looking to allow for good anchor text links. Looks mostly like bird sites right now, but it's free to sign up so you may as well give it a shot and see what else comes along.
You may also be able to form partnerships with other pet forums. Since yours is mostly picture-related, maybe you could focus on a partnership withone that is mostly, say, nutrition related. Then you aren't really competing. I have been doing this and found a corporate sponsor for my next contest as well.

Lots of incomming links are needed to get you up the search engines. Directory links are a must, they score highly with search engines but are time consuming to submit by hand. There are tool available to help make things a bit easier. The search engines love these type of links and they will give your site a great boost.

Sorry
Sorry about the transgression I saw an earlier post with an aff link and assumed it was allowed. As we have both had a good wrist slapping I now know the rules
I am a little confused on the matter of the sig link, I am new to your forum I have been typing post and adding sig at bottom and thought this to be ok. Please advise if there is something additional I should be doing. I have noticed some posts have a seperating line between body and sig is there a particular way to put this in.
Thanks
Geoff

Hi Geoff,
up at the top go to user CP, in there you'll find an option for "signature". you can create a perm. sig.

Market Your Site Thru Articles
Nick, I host a Free Reprint Articles Directory, YahooWire.com where experts in any field can contribute articles sharing their expertise. In return, article authors are able to post live links in the About the Author box to promote and generate traffic to their businerss/website. We would love to have you contribute. You can also find articles in the directory that further explain the concept of "Article Marketing".
Visit The Wire, there is plenty of good info there.

Hey Nick,
got a new one... not free though. How about offline marketing?
A. If you drive a lot, maybe a decal on your car
B. Go to Pet related events/places and give out fliers/bumper stickers, etc.
C. If you are not competing, see if pet stores would allow you to leave fliers and what not if you put brief info or something about them on your site (could have a pet-stores topic). Actually, I'd ask first w/out offering this, then use if if they say no.
just some quick ideas. Looks like you are in a big city
