Find other forums where you can post a link.
Post something hi-larious and get it submitted to fark.com.
Spread the word through friends and relatives.
Then the usual: PPC, SEO, banners, etc.

Participate in forums and add a link to your site in the signature. Optimize your site with relevant keywords for search engines. The usual banner ads, PPC ads are also effective enough.

Add more contents, participate in forums with links as your signature, directory submission, and article submission

Find as many forums as you can that are relevant to your subject and post regularly. You may wish to do som PPC if your budget allows. More than anything get yourself some good quality links to your site particularly one way links from free direcories. Do all of the above and when you think youve done enough you will be just starting so push harder. You will find traffic will begin to come.

Find and begin to participate in discussion-boards where it seems natural to find someone interested in the site you are running or product you try to sell.
I did this kind of marketing for several months on the site of mine which sells skin care products. It gave excellent results.

People loves to send this kind of sites at e-mails. So if you serve with email it can be more effective. To do this, you can send your contents to news servers including your website name. People will follow the links.

Write expert level articles related to your websites content. Write a relatively short article, with nothing but the best content, and you can get it submitted for free to many article repositories like constant-content, offer it free, not for paid licensing.
A well written and unique article will be picked up for publishing in countless ezines, and the like.
Offer the same articles through your website in RSS, alongside a brief instruction showing people how to add your feed to their Personalized Google homepage. I'm using that now and get a great amount of repeat traffic (AKA paying visitors). Of course, write articles, and write them often.
Great for inbound links too!

If you have a budget you can PPC for an immediate shot in the arm for traffic while you build up your organic traffic through SEO and viral marketing. You can link exchange with like minded sites for a little extra foot traffic and search engine recognition.

Most has been said: directories, forum sigs, articles, SEO. Link swaps has been a big one for me - lots of backlinks. Myspace is a good way. Forward an email through friends/family. Make sure your site has interesting content for word of mouth promotion. Comment on blogs. Think about paying for good positioning in popular directories. Introduce a tell a friend section/newsletter to your website. Hope this helps.
