Thumbs down Who Is Your Target Audience?

Who Is Your Target Audience?

If you don’t know who your specific target audience is, trying to market your business can be a bit like throwing a whole lot of poo against the wall and hoping that some of it will stick.

So tell me, who is YOUR target audience? How did you decide on this?

I totally agree with you, dont be stupid and waste your valuable resources by walking in the dark. Study your product and find out who might need that. Analysing competitors is one quick way of getting some answers.

My target audience is anyone that likes to hunt, camp, fish,,,,, or enjoys the outdoors.

Another one of my targeted audiences is anyone interested in survivalism, firearms,,,, and just general ramblings from someone who enjoys doing those types of things.

For example, a couple of weeks ago I made a video and blog post about a weekend fishing on the river.

Now we are getting somewhere. This is exactly the point I wanted to make. You have learned to market your specific target audience....

Sometimes you start out not knowing exactly what your target audience is.

And that's okay. Just as long as you figure it out before you waste a year of your life.

I started a Fiverr blog. It soon became apparent that the blog wanted to have an emphasis on services for entrepreneurs and business people. Discovering that made it possible to create another Fiverr blog focusing on the non-business stuff.

They're both growing like mad.

Thank you.

For that article I was targeting people who are looking up stuff about trotlines and juglines/floatlines.

The video started out with making up some trotlines in the backyard, taking the boat out to set the lines, then going back the next morning to check everything.

I ended up with a 11:32 minute video, several images on my blog, and about a 2,000 - 3,000 word blog post, and 3 catfish. 2 of the fish I threw back for being too small to mess with, one I kept, brought home and filleted.

Geez, I'm envious.

I write blog posts all the time but hardly ever get any fish. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Thank you again.

In the world of bloggers, I think there are 3 groups:

1 - the people that want to put out as little effort as possible. They setup their blog, post as little as possible, and then complain when their blogs do not take off.

2 - the people that are willing to put forth "some" effort. They might take the time to post some images, or grab a video from youtube.

3 - the people that put in the time and effort to make a good site. These are the people that film their own videos, take their own pictures and write their own articles. This last group is the one that goes the extra mile.

Hi Cricket, technically speaking, poo would most likely stick to a wall if thrown for a little while at least, and then slowly start to trickle down unless of course...let's not go there.

Veering on topic, and for good reason, finding out who your target audience should be hard to do, after all it IS your product/service/company, you should have done your research before hand. So you know who it is you want to target, the tricky part is actually going about it.

Joining communities related to your niche helps, building brand awareness, socializing on social platforms like twitter and facebook, joining relevant groups and interacting with fans that have specific interests within your niche, all of this helps. However, while I said this is the tricky part, I think the hardest part is to convert this traffic, to compete with similar sites. That's why I feel SEO and ranking high in the search engines, higher than your competitions, that's the game changer.

This is all how I see things and I may very well be off the mark, but as they say - unless you outrank your competition, potential clients are not going to come find you, you need to go find them - so ranking seems the natural sure-fire way of gaining the most targeted users to me!

@fluffythewondercat - I have stumbled across one of your blogs in the past! BestOf! I love your tongue in cheek posting style and commend you on an awesome approach with both of your blogs. Best of luck with both ventures.

A Bail Bondsman's Target Demographic

As a bail bond agent I'm afraid I'm targeting friends and loved ones folks who have been arrested. Surprisingly, it's not the one in jail, but the one who's not I want looking for me. Wait a minute...who's targeting who?

@Creative Monkeys, thank you for those very kind words.

@kev, is that a catfish? I only know what they look like blackened.

When it comes to online marketing, most folks target keywords rather than demographics. Or so it seems to me.

Yes, that is a catfish.

In december 2010 a buddy of mine and I went on a 3 day camping trip on a local river. The evening of the second day the fish were biting real good.
