Newbie seeking some help

I just started my site, launched last week. I got started by reading RichJerk's book, don't know if that was a good idea yet.

Anyway, I'm concerned about my site because I don't really know what I'm doing. I have a sales letter, but it's soft not hard. I have affiliate links on the site, but I might have gone overboard with the google ads.

Also, I desperately need traffic generating ideas. Anyway, thanks for any help - the people here seem to really know what they are doing.

traffic generating idea:
!) First of all build good looking website with some uniqueness.
@) It should be fast loading.
#) Search your niche and ask webmasters for link building.
$) Advertise your website (adwords,overture and now msn adcenter).
%) Explore forums in your niche to introduce your site.

At the end it would generate "traffic".

Post something useful in forums on the topic your site is about. Have links in your profile but don't drop links to your site in your posts. Then after you build a reputation as soeoone who posts quality stuff, drop your link to something useful on your site.

Or if you want to be quick about it...

Spend money on PPC

Optimize your site with relevant keywords, exchange links with similar sites, participate in forums, contribute and add a link to your site in the forum signature.

Well all the above replies are the various methods of bringing traffic to your site.. and i would that you write articles about something realted to your website... well you have a cooking related website then why dont write some special recepies... and post them to various article submission sites... a few to start would be http://www.goarticle.com , http://www.ezinearticles.com .. search for them on google... well this may certainly bring quite a good amount of traffic to your website...

Then think of the more important thing... the press releases these are a bit more professional... if you have an article thats newsworthy.... that you feel is uniqe and belongs to your market i.e. cooking then go and release them on various sites... if your luck is with you then you would get listed to varous search engines, rss feed sites loads of them... but this requires hard work...
