Help on starting a blog

I am interested in starting a blog, partly to promote my business, and partly just for the fun of doing it. I downloaded wordpress and am about to buy a domain name, so I guess it should be easy to set up the basics and get a template made and then some content.

My main question is, how do I publicize my blog? Once I have some content, where do I submit it or otherwise get readers/traffic to it?

Submit to blog directories, get networked with other bloggers and blogroll each other and use Technorati tags. Otherwise, just like any other website, promote it with link building and content that earns linkage.
