Freebie Websites

I was reading a topic about marketing a website, but I was curious to know if joining affiliate programs and using a free website to promote them has any value?

I'm only starting out. I'm in the UK and I am not certain of which hosting company to use, be it in the UK or elsewhere.

Regarding the marketing, I have been wondering also what value there is in trying to get traffic to a free website. For example I have various names from Yahoo! and could use the free space they offer to put up a few pages, but again is there any value in that?

Your help would be much appreciated.

When I first started out online I made over $5000 promoting affliate programs on free web hosting (This was way back in 1998, and I wasn't old enough for a credit card to pay for hosting or domains which were expensive!)

These days hosting and domains are so cheap, there is no reason to use free hosting. Take a look at www.FreeServers.com if you really want free hosting, but have your own domain name. You can buy a domain name for less than $10 and then use freeservers.com for free hosting of that domain (with a banner). Then when you have begun to make money, you can transfer that domain to paid hosting and not lose what you've built up (traffic and recognition for that domain)
