Extending The Life Of A Press Release

This is a good blog post to read. I have not created a press release in a few years so i'm out of the loop on promoting the press release around the world.

I've never had much results with press releases...paid or free.
If anyone has any tips or specific strategies I'd also like to know.
I know it can be very effective for both SEO purposes and traffic.

I have tried similar strategies with press releases and had some very good results. I find if you use a paid press release service you tend to get far more journalists seeing your release, most serious journalists don't hang around the free sites. They also re-tweet well written ones, I have had over 200 tweets on a number of occasions.

I'm looking to outsource this kind of activity in the near future, so I can leave it to those who know what they're doing. It would take too much of my time probably, but I do believe if the pressrelease is well written it would draw the attention of more journalists...meaning more exposure for you.

I recently did a press release a few days ago and the traffic tripled for about 3 days then died off. This is about normal to any press release I have done. The current press release has 9,000+ indexes in Google and pretty much what was mentioned on that blog post I have done already.

I find unless a press release is actually newsworthy it will not stick for very long. The stats from PR Web that I get in my email state : Your press release that went live on January 27, 2012 So far your release has received 100732 impressions and 3213 reads
