You would build backlinks for it, the exact same way you would with any other site, there is no difference, but with movies, you are going head to head against some really big names and so much competition you may never really get a page one rank. Ranking depends on your keywords, so finding related keywords that are searched for often, but have low competition and then mixing these with your main ones could work.

I would suggest commenting on some movie-related blogs, I know thousands of them exist. Especially movie review blogs, doing this should help you acheive some better ranking within the movie niche, as well as possibly increase your overall site traffic from prospective visitors who are already interested in the movie niche.
I hope this helps!
Much Thanks,

Given your inventory of movies is likely to grow and change over time, focus on building seo value for you entry point of your website.
If you can gain credibility with the search engines for generic terms, then perhaps look at long tails. Building for specific movie titles if going to be hard

Just build links just as you would for any other site. You can specialize with niche-related backlinks on blog comments and forum posts if you would like as well.

Other than directories and social bookmarking, blogging might help you to build backlinks and traffic at the same time.

I would suggest becoming a regular in forums regarding movies. I would also submit my site to as many directories as possible. Also, creating press releases for your site is also a good idea, because they may increase traffic as well. Like any other site, take advantage of social media, forums, blogging, and creating keywords that are relevant and useful when people are searching for your site, though it will be quite difficult for you to attain the amount of traffic you want because of the vast amount of competition you face, and the large names that make the market for smaller sites even smaller. Good luck. Hope some of this helped.

go through with the relevant website or forums or blogs to build backlinks. Because, relevant back links give more juice and it is appropriate way to gain a good page rank for your movies website. But, never SPAM any website with your website links. Also, don't list copyrighted videos without the prior permission from the copyright owner. Because, Google hates infringed contents.

massively leave the comment in other people's blog with your link.
remember, the comment must comes with the good content enriching people's blog, then, they are welcome for your comment and allow the link there as a small gift back to the poster!
use google bog searching or google alerts to collect the proper blog url!
good luck!

Social networking sites are the great tools to get much popularity for such kind of movies and image content rich websites. You can get the good response if you share interesting content on social media platforms.

If your website have sharable content then it would get natural links. However, you will need to build links too. You can go for common link building methods.
You can start blog commenting, blog posting, forum posting, article submission and social bookmarking etc.

There plenty of forums on movies, so they're a good place to start. The social networking sites like FB and Youtube are also worth considering.

There is no differnce in the way of link building based on the type of website. Practicing SEO in related and higher ranking sites helps in achieving a great amount of traffic to the website. You can achieve a great amount of traffic through Social networks like twiiter.

Movie website or the whole Entertainment category is very easy to target as everyone loves to watch movies you can make facebook pages like horror movies online or thriller movies and such this way you can attract users to page and then divert them to your website other than that there are thousands of entertainment forums from where you can actually get real traffic that adds up to the revenue and conversion

I have a movie site that is pretty much constant postion two in Google for a movie keyword that gets over 3 million exact searches per month the site makes me less than £2 per day for some reason I find it very hard to monetize this site. I go for traffic not niche cost per click like loans etc but the movie sector is hard to make money from, I guess advertisers don’t want to advertise on illegal sites.
My sites not even illegal I have no links to movies or no movie covers everything is cc and still I find it hard to get advertisers. Clicksor are hardcore they take anything I am using them on lots of my sites the money is alright pretty good on some of them but anything movie related seems to be much lower.
I have been to your site and I see your using Clicksor that why I mentiond them I also seen that you are embedding content? I didn’t watch the content but if you don’t have licences to those movies you could get in trouble, police can see who is really adding the content so the dmca user generated rule would not apply to you if it was you personally embedding that content. Two ways to look at it at the minute piracy is getting stricter so more of a need, or piracy is getting stricter and sentences get harder.
Assuming you are going to stay on the legal road building backlinks is.
Start by using a few auto approve web 2.0 here is a few to get you started
PR9
wordpress.com
PR8
weebly.com
livejournal.com
squidoo.com
bravenet.com
PR7
blogger.com
blogsome.com
wetpaint.com
tripod.lycos.com
tumblr.com
quizilla.teennick.com
viviti.com
Once you have made some really good unique content on each of those sites start building your backlinks to your those sites using more sites just like those, you don’t have to get auto approve but it’s always good to start with auto approve and then bring out the big guns a while later.
A few good ways to learn how to find really good backlinks is speeding up the way you search for them, instead of just google’ing random keywords, you can use filters and commands such as
-”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “ADD YOUR KEYWORD”
Seach that in google replace add your keyword with something like “where can I watch” do the lastest results google search and there you go your not spamming you are helping people find the films that they are looking for.
There are thousands of Google commands i have a huge list but I have copied and pasted in this post already with those web2.0 and don’t want to do anymore but you can find lists of commands just by searching “google commands”
You can also share your links in forums as long as your not spamming and actually giving useful links in the right places you will be fine, do everything manual don’t try automate the process, sites like yahoo answers is good for movie sites, YouTube trailers is also a good way to get traffic, the list goes on and on but that should keep you going for a while.
