Question Increasing forum members

Do anyone have any ideas on how I can increase forum members on SearchBliss?

The forum contest doesn't seem to doing the trick. There is still over 2 month before the winner is announced, but only two are in the running so far, no one else. I'm disapointed in the results so far.

Any ideas would be great.

ugh!

I never, EVER allow a contest to run for more than 1 month on my site, and that is only a referral contest. Any other contests we have run for either 1 or 2 weeks.

It's been my experience with this that people are results-oriented, and lose interest too quickly when you have a contest drag out for too long.

You should partner up with another site. For example, I have a site, bands sign up for band of the week, and they get a spot on the homepage and promotion. Since I'm not making money(yet) from ads, I can't give prices, so I made a deal with a new web design company, and the winner gets a free website design.

So having friends helps

I agree with tekno monkey. Making and creating deals and offers with other webmasters and people who are in position to increase your visitors & members is a good method. Just make sure the incentive you are offering is irrefusable.

Well Searchbliss, I don't think most simple contests will do much in terms of growing your forum... John's v7ndotcom has done well for this site I think, but it really seems like those types of contest attempts haven't panned out quite as well for other sites and forums. I think contests are a GREAT value added for existing members. Keeps wetting the beak. but they should be short and sweet like pointed out.. in my opinion.

I think one the biggest things is to be a MAJOR poster on your own forum. You need to be an authority on your topics so you can reply to every post, and continually post new content yourself while attracting new members. it's really a 24/7 job IMO in the beginning.

Build linkage and practice SEO. Findout what search terms brought in your existing members. See if they will link to you from their sites.

I like your forum layout, but the topics aren't very unique. I would suggest looking for a niche in the industry, something that makes your forum a little different from the others. Then you may see DPrs, WT'rs, and V7n'rs who also enjoy your site as well, rather than instead of their current homes.

Unless of course you are just looking to replace existing forums in the industry, then I'd say dive deep into your bank account and prepare for war
