there are many advice given in this forum which i found very helpful and the first one i implemented and immediately found good result is by joining social networking sites specifically facebook, put the link to your website in your profile and post something related to your website together with your link and some will click that link and generate some traffic to your website.

it depends only on how you use that website and make it popular for you
make backlinks on sites with high rankings and that match your content and type of traffic
create backlinks and than wait for traffic on yours

Hi,

Free PPC advertising. If you're from North America, or if you know someone in North America who's kind and cool enough to help you:

Get a $10/mo or so hosting account from a hosting company offering $100 or more of free Google Adwords credits and $50 or more of free Yahoo! credits with their hosting plans. There are also Facebook coupon codes that can get you up to $250 of free Facebook PPC credits...

Content syndication and guest authoring and private ad space rentals via PPC/PPV/PPM or solo email ads. For content syndication campaigns:

Submit your content to contextually relevant, high authority content syndication networks, with large publisher bases, comprised of webmasters looking for useful content, for the unconditional happiness of the regular readership, membership and mailing list bases, of their contextually relevant, high authority sites in your niche. You can also directly contact these webmasters, and tell them about the greatness and coolness of your content, in the eyes of their viewers. If you can't seem to convince them, tell them you can become extremely violent, when you don't get what you want...

Guest authoring. Offer your unique content services, to owners of contextually relevant, high authority sites and blogs in your niche, in exchange for banner ads and text link ads in your unique content. If you can't seem to wow them, enough for them to agree, then you can bundle pole-dancing videos of yourself, with your unique content. That'd surely do wonders for you...

Since you don't want to pay money, offer other sorts of payment for those
private ad space rentals and solo email ads. For instance, you can offer beer or kind words or a great time with you, to owners of contextually relevant, high authority sites and blogs and forums in your niche, with large readership, active membership and active mailing list subscriber bases, more so if they have many top ranking pages in Google for your target keywords. If you can't seem to convince a lot of them, there's always room for unspeakable cruelty, so you can get what you want...

I'd have to agree with social media sites. When I started with Stumbleupon the results were... instant and massive... for first time. So yes, it would be recommended to use social media sites for traffic.

Google.

Facebook.

Twitter.

You never really explained much about your niche so can provide no much help.

Forums and message boards related to your niche would be a great place to try. Given your success with Yahoo Answers you'll probably find it's easy to get going with forums - same sort of Q&A format.

Can't remember the link / name but there's a site that lists the biggest & busiest forums on the web. Maybe someone else knows it?

I agree that a targeted forum is certainly a good place to get exposure. As far as things like facebook go, there are often groups centered around your niche that you can join in these social networks that will give you far more targeted exposure and better results than just posting in a general place for the world to see and ignore.

Use social networking sites like Twitter, facebook, YouTube, Linkedin and others to get the word out.

Be sure to submit your site to Directories.

Make sure your META TAGS are done right.

There are several ways to increase traffic, but most impressive one is to be rank in SERP with high volume keywords. Then you can follow techniques for traffic. Promote your site Social Media Optimization through Facebook, Twitter, My Space, Digg and other social networking sites.

Hi mikesideas,

The way you get traffic now, from Yahoo Answers, I find very intriguing. Would you be kind and explain how you search YA for targeted traffic (or research for a large enough targeted audience relevant to your site) and then go about answering questions in such a way that brings traffic to your site?

I'd be very thankful for your insight on this method.

Thank you!
Sincerely,

DorianG

Social networking sites are the best way to get good traffic to the website. I prefer using Twitter because it helps in acheiving a good traffic to the website.

Yahoo answers can bring a huge amount of targeted visitors. but, in my case I wouldn't say the same thing about twitter. On the other hand pinterest and stumbleupon brought me beautiful target. there's a method of converting that traffic ... that I haven't yet perfected.

I've had great experiences using youtube to boost my traffic rates.

I uploaded 3-5 videos per day, medium quality videos and they usually bring me fair amount of traffiic after a while. (more of a long term type of plan, not a quick fix)

Or start uploading pdf documents to PDF sharing sites with your link inside

Keep in mind while you do see many responses on this thread, the best places you get traffic from also depends upon what niche you are in and if your business is online or offline.

To Mike Re: Getting traffic from Yahoo Answers

Hi Mike,

I had written asking in a thread about your traffic from Yahoo Answers and was hoping to get a reply. It was probably overlooked. I can't yet PM you (I need at least 10 posts, so I have to ask you again here; sorry.) Here is the question:

The way you get traffic now, from Yahoo Answers, I find very intriguing. Would you be kind and explain how you search YA for targeted traffic (or research for a large enough targeted audience relevant to your site) and then go about answering questions in such a way that brings traffic to your site?

I'd be very thankful for your insight on this method. In fact, showing one of your posts there that brought such traffic would be awesome, and I think a great contribution to the forum audience.

Thank you!
Sincerely,

DorianG

You said Yahoo answers brought a lot of traffic. You might also try other "answer" sites like Aol answers, answers.com and simply explained along with forums for software you use on your computer.

I find Linkedin as one of the good sources of traffic. They have also Q&A section just like Yahoo Answer where you can give suggestions or answer relevant questions to your niche. You can also join on relevant linkedin groups and engage with other members.
