Where to promote an online contest?

I'm thinking to start an online contest in order to get one of my websites known better. How can I promote this contest? Which are the best websites I can upload my contest? Are there any legal related issues with the contest prizes and winner selection?

Hi infinity79! I want to give my input, hope it'll help.

We used to run a contest, till now actually, for all we know it's one way of link baiting. We launched our contest (trivia contest) on Facebook, and promote it using other social media like Twitter. The answer to trivia can be found in one of the articles in our website, so they have to look over and search (for) that article containing the hint and the correct answer. We also tried this website: iWantPromo a free promotion website. Try it, the information of their website is crawled fast by SE's bot, in just 24hours, expect your contest will appear in SERP.

I can't say anything for sure if you will face any legal problem when it comes in prizes. It depends on your country's governance I guess. I do a search and found a good source of info: What legal issues come up when running a contest or giveaway?.

I have also thought on that, but unfortunatelly I don't have so many followers both on facebook or on Twitter.

I'm not running the contest in my country. I would like to run it worldwide

. The prizes will be some services (webhosting, domain names etc.) so no objects to be delivered.

classified ads, related forums would help somewhat.

you could also use affiliate marketing for this.

The best one I can think of is Facebook and some banner ads. It's cheap and guaranteed a winner!

If you have budget then target the audience through the search engines via PPC campaigns by Google Adwords (or) try to run the PPC campaign in the social media platforms like Facebook. If you doesn't have a budget then you need to do it manually through facebook sharing capabilities or some other free contest hosting services to promote the contest.
